Dual Alternators in 2000 chevy astro van 4.3

as the title reads im actually looking for anyone who has experience with doin this or know someone who has...


i dont know exactly were to start but im assuming i have to remove my ac unit seeing as how its right by the alt, i have no problem with that but some info would be appreciated

also after i do get it goin(*down the line) one alt is for battery up front an other is for acc batteries correct?

you can run them for the car and system together ,usually not an issue if the alts are big enough.i had it done on my 95 s10 4.3 ,was really easy to .just removed my ac unit ,was bad anyway , and put the second alt there.ran all the wires together and done .

agreed, that is the standard approach. some notes:

AC condenser pulley is usually different than the alternator pulley. you will need to have custom brackets made to hold the alt in the right spot. changing the belt may also be required.

study a shop manual schematic for how the alt field current is controlled.

AC systems are pressurized with freon, which is toxic and should be disposed of properly. you will need to ensure that removal of the condenser does not have an adverse effect on other systems - i.e. consult a mechanic if you are not already knowledgeable on the system in your vehicle.

both alts should serve all batteries, otherwise you have little advantage with the effort. all batteries should have near identical float voltages - i.e. be the same type and age.

i got lucky on mine i bolted up fairly easy ,just needed a spacer on the back side off the bolt mounting area ,then it laid up against the other part of the bracket ,didn't even have to replace the belt ,the stock one fit perfect .and kept the alt resting against the bracket as well

nice, but its gonna still be a tight fit on the astro van even when i remove the ac but its cool ima get it done

Iraggi is a company that builds H.O. alternators.
Dominick was the first guy to build a quad bracket for a suburban. He was the first guy to put 6 alts in Jonathan prices tahoe. He put 8 alternators in an escalade.
He put 5 alternators in Exo's new ford project.

He is currently working on trying to get 10 alternators in his 99 suburban.

I bet he can get 2 alternators in your astro van.

o ok i didnt know that, i got it covered now i talked to my alt guy we can fit it with a lil grinding on a bracket from Escalade ima start the process soon thank you though
