purchasing amp question
First off, I am completely new to car stereo and audio. I read a couple guides on help 101 but just felt in over my head. I recently came across a free 12 inch sub box and free 12 inch kicker comp 8 ohm woofer at my work when a couple purchasing deals went sour and could not be returned. Anyways that leads me here. Had no idea how involved audio can be. I'm not looking for the best amp but just one that will work with my sub. What kind of amp should I be looking for? 1000 watt? 2 way? Mono? If it sounds like I am lost... you're right. I'm trying to slowly get into the car audio world and this looks to be the best place to start.
Any amp recommendations?
Thanks

Re: purchasing amp question
Your going to want a mono amp. What is the watts of the subwoofer?

Re: purchasing amp question
And your going to want to look at rms watts. Any amp you see that has a MAX watt rating your not going to want to get it

Re: purchasing amp question
It's a Kicker Comp so it's around 150 rms. You're going to want to get an amp that does double that at 4 ohm as car audio amps don't have 8 ohm ratings. My suggestion would be to get a cheap 2 channel amp and run it bridged to the sub. Something that does around 300 watts at 4 or so would be fine. That way when you upgrade which you'll eventually do you'll already have an amp for door speakers. You don't need to spend more than 80-100 bucks on it.

Re: purchasing amp question
So 2 channel at least 300 watts is what I'm looking for. Its OK to go well over 300 though as long as I have it tuned properly correct?

I wouldn't go to much more with that sub
