hey guys i have a muscle car with one 4x10 4ohm speaker up front and two 6x9 4ohm speakers in the back. and i have a 4 channel head unit with 50 watts per channel. Can i wire the left rear speaker to the left rear channel the right rear speaker to the right rear channel and the single front speaker to the right front channel and leave the left front channel un-used.
will this work?

If there is a part of a song that only uses the left side of the stereo, then the sound will only come from the left rear speaker.
is there any way to wire the front into the rear and only use two of the four channels?
maybe, but that wouldn't be better than running it 3-channel. you know they make different 4x10 options to solve your problem. or could do 2-3.5, or 4" mids in it's spot. some of the shelf options include dvc 4x10, 2 smaller speakers already formed into a 4x10 plate, a summing transformer that will turn both front channels into one, etc...
You could wire the front speaker to both front channels. FR+ and FL- or FL+ and FR-. That should give you a mono output.
ok so i can wire the front speaker positive to the LF ch. and the negative to the RF ch.
and if my channels produce 50w each will it still be 50w if i wire up the front speaker that way. and also will it still only produce either right or left sound?
how will it affect my balance and fade.

What you should do is pull the 4x10 out of there, use the speaker on 1/4 plywood to make a template. Cut out the 1/4 plywood to fit 2 - 4" or 2 - 5.25" drivers in the same spot the 4x10 went.
Now you can run stereo front and rear and I think it will sound better.
why not find a 4x10 dvc speaker

OP, thats a $3 adapter.. allows for 2 3.5" speaks.
Course you could just go with plywood.. then seal it so the sun doesnt warp it.. then somehow make it look good.. but 1/4" plywood with very little surface area will most likely crack before warp.
and my math might be rusty but if you have a 4" speaker how would one fit a 5.25" speaker in the same area? much less 2.. isnt that 5 x 10.5" in a 4x10 spot..
just me i guess.

but id do it right and grab the adapter.

5 1/2" speakers need a 4.4" cutout which may or may not fit in a 4x10 speaker cutout, that is why I also recommended 4" mids.
Plywood cause it is easy to work with and if you have ever been in a older muscle car you would know that they have a thick foam dash pad over the speaker area so using plywood is just fine.
