GMC sierra 2006
I want to install a stereo with navigation screen. Can someone explain to me what parts I will need to complete the job and have original factory functionality of the steering wheel controls, door chimes, etc?
Edit: The truck does not have onstar, the stereo is the original CD/tape deck.

Re: GMC sierra 2006
Thanks for the response, I plugged in my year and model and was given about 25 different options. I was told by a local store that I needed a kit (mount), a harness, a steering wheel module for the controls, an an onstar radio replacement module. Not sure why, I told them I don't have onstar.
Bottom line is, I am confused about what I actually need to accomplish the job, have factory functionality and not have issues with the computer.
Cartoys (yeah, not impressed) told me that if I don't get the onstar replacement that I the dealer would not be able to read the computer, even said that the codes were stored in the radio.

Re: GMC sierra 2006
Hey guy.
Use crutchfield.com
I would not reccomend buying from them but they are great at finding what fits or your car.
Anyways.. all you need is a mounting bracket (a piece of plastic to hold it into your factory dash, easy to install) and a wiring harness. This can be a pain if you are color blind and have zero DIY skills, otherwise for others its a breeze. It makes it so your new unit can plug into your cars factory wiring and work right out of the box.
Any questions?

Metra VT-GMRC-01 GM Radio Replacement Adapter is the adapter they recommend for non-Onstar vehicles but I would need something else for the steering wheel controls. Any idea what I should use?

I am not sure, I would contact crutchfield. They offer discounts on all their installation equipment if you order your stereo thru them

Re: GMC sierra 2006
Nearest I can figure the Axxess GMOS-100 GM harness/adapter is an all in one unit with a steering wheel module built in. If I understand this correctly this will work with my rig as the harness, the ASWC and interface the radio with the trucks computer/electronics.
Am I understanding this correctly? If I use this I don't need the ASWC and the PAC OS2C as cartoys quoted me?
I hate to ask all of these questions, I just don't want to start the install and not have the needed parts let alone fry something.
edit: Just realized teh GMOS-100 is over $200 unless I buy a radio from crutchfield. Guess I may have to keep looking at this before I decide.
