Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
Ok guys / gals
bit of background..
I have been installing for almost 20 years.. Never seen this issue.
I have a 91 Chevy k1500
Im running:
2 3xl PB Subs
XTA 2250D 1 ch Amplifier
2 Yellow Top Optimas
Now when I am slammin the bass, and driving, the truck will literally hickup as the bass hits.
My Digital guage says im not dropping below 13v.
Im running 0ga wire
and this is a single cab truck so the length is not far.
Any ideas?
Truck is TBI

Where is the meter installed?
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
Maybe you're vibrating some wires loose somewhere and causing it. It is almost 22 years old
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
have one on battery, and one hooked to battery however ran inside vehicle.. as well, the main gauge of the vehicle..

didnt think of that, however.. very few wires in the vehicle.. and its just old enough to have barely any vacuum lines.
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
are head lights dimming when the bass hits? if so try a battery isolator. you hook it in between the batt bank and the main starting bat's one probelm is finding one big enough if you got a 300 amp alternator if not mite want to consider a bigger bigcouple of things like alt, more batts, isolater, and wire, etc... i seen isolaters that go up to 250 amps for retail. all the isolater does is charge the batts wile not pulling form the starting bat. make it so it will not pull from the front. biggest ****** part is letting it charge long enough for a bass run if you run a isolater. like if in a class that you can not run the car in your s.o.l. then. as you can tell i never liked runing a isolater i find it better with big alts and dual big altsand a batt bank if needed.
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
usually the issue is that your current draw from the amp steals a lot of power from the alt. and makes your injection and ignition system weak, causing the car/truck to stutter. My roommates honda has a weak alt and 500w will literally shut the car off. Do the big 3 if you haven't already and upgrade the alt if you have done the big 3.
P.S. TBI is for fail!

already did the 3..
will try isolator..
also i appreciate your TBI comment, although its far from true.
435 hp.. 21 miles to gallon..
and i dont need a full shop to change them..
but ya thanks for the off the topic opinion.
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
what kind of alt do you have?
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
Time for a HO alt.Especially if the big three been done, and power ground wires are 0ga, and an extra batt installed.Time for the big buck spending of the HO alt
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
k now to through you guys for a loop took a drive, seperated batts from one another.. amp was on secondary, and nothing else.. set it up.. fired it off and stutter..
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
1991 Chevy K1500 are notorious for bad terminal connections on top of the fuel pump. My guess is that the bass hits and causes a disconnect. Check that first.

Not to being thrown off...just not enough juice to run that hunger power needing bass amp.You running @a 1ohm load on the subs? What size fuse do you have under the hood? And are you running a Fused distro block at the amps as well? How do you have the secondary battery hooked up from the main battery.Alts big three only on the main?Amp power coming off the secondary straight from the batt, and not the main in line?Have you tried to run the alt big three to the secondary as well? How is it done? Pics of under hood wiring, and power supply
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
91 chevy alt standard are only 90-105 amps.A140a may work for you,but will have to bore bolt connection to make fit.I helped a friend out on his older chevy truck, and he had a 105, believe his truck is a 94/95?I have a 98,biggest in stock alt at orileys is a 140a,.I helped him put that on his truckl, did the big three and 14.4-14.6 lowest 14v on a low note.
Re: Truck Stutters when Bass Hits
Q=Also, are you running any AGM batts at all? What batts do you have in there?
