No amps have a "switch" that blows. A switch is a physical openning/closing of a circuit done manually. A fuse or breaker could blow. If it were a fuse, it would not be smoking. Electronics that smoke don't work anymore. It's a simple fact. They load smoke in components from the factory. Components are designed to release it when they are bad. That's how you know.... and knowing is half the battle. GI JOE!!!

My amp is a Rockford Fosgate R-1000-1D
I'm sorry but I have to lulz here, it "started smoking like crazy" and you want to know what happened to it?
Your friend caught the **** thing on fire, something burned up in there. Make him buy you a new amp!

yeah, electricity isn't rocket science. i know how it operates.
Can you open up the amp and take some pics and post them here? I just want to see the carnage, or the magical "switch" that blows on RF amps.

It was a funny read.

I could see this happening if he hooked the power wire to the remote on terminal...

We've joked about magic smoke for years... but I never thought anybody might actually believe in it... until NOW!

... That's pretty bad if someone believes that... I wouldn't be surprised though
Re: possibly hooked my amp up backwards, started smoking.... what happened to it?
not believing in it, just wondering because i've never had an amp blow up on me before.

what amp is it?
Re: possibly hooked my amp up backwards, started smoking.... what happened to it?
and besides, i was asking a simple question. if I wanted an answer that got me absolutely nowhere, I wouldn't have bothered asking.
Re: possibly hooked my amp up backwards, started smoking.... what happened to it?
update: the capacitors inside the amp are blown. is this an easy, relatively cheap fix?
Re: possibly hooked my amp up backwards, started smoking.... what happened to it?
Can be if you send it to be repaired at the right place. A couple vendors here trust db-r and I'd recommend the same
