Need help please!!!
I have two twelve inch pioneer subs and a 1000 watt kenwood amp hooked up to it and I also have a 1300 watt wiring kit for it all. I have everything hooked right the thing I need help with is to know if my amp is busted or something. I will start driving and my subs are working fine like blasting loud bass like I want but after 30-45 minutes of driving my subs start to cut out.. Like every other minute. They will like turn off the bass then turn back on.. Can someone please tell me if its my amp or something one of my friends said it might be something called protection mode but I don't understand I'm a beginner with all of this please help really quick..

Re: Need help please!!!
Touch the amp to see how hot it is when this happens. It could be going into protection, its to protect the amp from over heating and what not. Is there any lights on the amp, do they change colour when this happens?
Is the amp just laying flat on some carpet? What is your gain set at? Also check for loose wires.
If the amp works for 30 mins, then I'm sure the amp is ok.

I'm not really sure actually but I think it gets pretty warm but is there a way I could make sure it dosent overheat?? And I don't think my gain is that high but I mean its a nice powerful amp and my kit is brand new but all I know for sure is that when it cuts in and out my light on the amp like turns off and on..

It the amp mounted to something?

Re: Need help please!!!
Yeah I have my amp drilled onto my sub box actually.

Re: Need help please!!!
Your going to need to space it out from the box a little bit. You could put 4-5 washers under each corner of the amp, then screw it down. You might need longer screws for this. Doing this allows the amp to be spaced out about a 1/4 inch from the sub box, so you can get air flow under there.

Re: Need help please!!!
I swear if that's the only reason why it cuts out I'm gonna be pissed lol but thank you for your help and do you think there could be another reason why or does it sound like this is the problem to why it keeps cutting out? Lol

Re: Need help please!!!
The amp might be getting too hot, or maybe your voltage is dropping bellow what the amp likes to operate at. But it sounds like its getting too hot and going into protect.

Re: Need help please!!!
The most important thing you can do is get a DMM and set your gains on your amp correctly. I'm guessing the Pioneers are 400 rms watts a pc.? The amp you're using will only put out 500 rms watts, if that. Which is fine but if you're setting the gain too high on your amp it's being taxed already. Also make sure your subs are wired to a 2 ohm load maximum. Anything under 2 ohm and you're going to see the magic smoke....

Your amp should have come with a manual. It will explain everything you need to know about setting your gains CORRECTLY. Read it, sweetie.

I'm guessing he bought the amp from one of his friends or bought it used and it didn't come with the manual.
OP, look up the manual online and read it. Then read it again.
