    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

so there's no way that it could be wired to 2 ohms?

I edited the original post with more info on the exact sub/amp

well if your amp is one ohm stable then you would wire it in parallel down to a 1 ohm load, if your amp is not 1 ohm stable then you need to wire it in series to a 4 ohm load.

    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

looks like that amp is not 1 ohm stable, so you should wire it in series to 4 ohm. This will be fine until you get a new amp or change the sub

Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams, One 2 ohm Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Speaker

I'd go wire to 4ohm. Agree with it not being very reliable at 1ohm.

    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

So why exactly would it be incapable of being wired at 2 ohm? is it because each coil is 2 ohm and would have to be wired together to be amplified? Would it be best if I just returned it and got a 4 Ohm model?

Sorry, I'm new to this and want to learn as much as possible

I hate to be the one....but, no you do not own a 1000 watt amp. You own a 500 watt rms at 2 ohm or a 300 watt rms at 4 ohm amp...and I am skeptical of those ratings as well.
    Kenwood - kac-8105d

the sub can be wired to 4 ohm with the voice coils wired in series, OR, 1 ohm with them wired parallel. Your ONLY option with that amp is to wire the sub in 4 ohm fashion for 300w..........

    ......*****, huh?

    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

Unfortunately you fell victim to subwoofer advertising at its worst. Most sites advertise PEAK wattage. So if you're looking at true specs of the Kenwood, it's 1000W peak and only 500 Wrms. Next time make sure to look at the RMS figure and match it to whatever sub you're intending to buy.

    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

I knew that it was 1000 watt peak. I just didn't know which way I'd be able to get the most out of the amp/sub combo. The amp was actually given to me by a friend. So no money lost there.

    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

Then you're in a better situation than you originally thought. At least you're still looking at 300wrms at 4 ohms which is at the bottom handling range of that sub. Should still be ok. Just not gonna come close to 1000W with that amp.

    Re: 2 ohm DVC question

However, the 4 ohm DVC version would draw more power from the amp if wired parallel?
