Limiting power to speakers?
So I'm installing 4 6.5 Pioneer D series , a pair of 4" D series and a pair of 6x9 D series.. Of the front channel of my JL 300/4 will be the front 6.5s and 4s.. the 6.5s can handle twice the power of the 4" speakers.. what's the best way to limit the power going into the 4s so I don't have to make the gains so low that the 6.5s aren't reaching their potential... thanks..
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
dont run them off the same ch.
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
Any problems I'm going to cause other than the difference in power needed? I guess I should run two four channel amps?
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
difference in power and the smaller speakers probably wont play as low as the bigger ones. you could run the 4 6's off one side and the smaller off the other
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
Or perhaps put some large capacitors to absorb the lower frequencies (i.e highpass), might help. Or even run the 4s off the deck power.
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
yea im not a huge fan of caps. but they "work"
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
I think I'm going to run my 6.5s of the JL 300/4... the 4s of the deck and the 6x9s of another two channel amp.... I'm just worried the 4s won't have as much depth/clarity of the deck vs an amp... and I'm always worried the sound just won't match as well with multiple power sources..
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
buy a 4 channel rather than a 2 channel and run the 4s and 6x9s off it

I don't think you should be particularly worried about "sound" since you're running all those various unnecessary speakers. If you are concerned about clarity and depth, I'd just purchase a nice pair of component speakers.
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
Run the 4's off HU power with bass blockers.
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
Ended up doing 4 6.5s of one 4 channel and then the 4's and 2 12's in the trunk of another 4 channel... the subs need more power though so it's gonna change again lol
Re: Limiting power to speakers?
I would recommend doing 4's off 2 ch of the amp, 4 6's off the other 2 ch and 6x9 off deck. Or run 2 4 ch amps. 2 amps would be the best.
