Sound distoration in fronts from sub...

When I am running my front alone, with the sub turned off, they sound great. But when i switch the sub on, i start getting distortion from them, like they are getting to much bass or something. Even when I turn the bass and treble down on my fronts, they still get some of the distortion but not as bad. This is the first time I have had this problem in installing stereos... any suggestions? Thanks!

Are you running more than one amp? If not, are the speakers hooked up to that amp or are they running off the head unit?

Re: Sound distoration in fronts from sub...

I am running two amps, one for the sub and one for the fronts. The sub amp is the Alpine MRV-1507, Rockford Fosgate RFR 3112, an older pioneer HU DEH-825R, and a smaller, older kenwood 4 channel amp. The sub is hooked up bridged to the Alpine amp and my fronts, INFINITY KAPPA 572.5CF 5x7 are running off the kenwood amp. The HU has 3 RCA outs, I am only using the front and the sub outs... I bought a 4 channel Monster Cable 4 channel RCAs, they have the fronts and the sub hooked to them, but I double checked to make sure that they were connected to the right connections (front kenwood amp, sub to alpine amp). I mention this cause it is the first time I have used a 4 channel RCA wire instead of using a wire for each RCA out from the HU....

double check to make sure the RCA's are running the correct way since monster RCA's are directional.

Then double check the gain setting on the amp for the fronts... when you said the distortion lessens when you turn down the bass and treble... makes me think there is clipping going on.

But why would the messing with the setting on the deck for the fronts have anything to do with the subs bass? I will have to check the gains after work though....
What do you mean about the RCA's running the correct way? Are you basically saying that they have an input and an output? Like in from the deck to the RCA and out to the sub and it makes a difference which end you plug them in?

Re: Sound distoration in fronts from sub...

About the suggestion for the gains... its just being thorough at this point.

The RCAs have a shield that is grounded at one end only and that end needs to be at the HU for the rcas to not pick up noise... so yes there is an in and an out... actually there are a couple stickers on the RCAs that point the direction of the signal flow... so they point to the amp.
