    Amp power wire question

Question: I have an 5 ch. amp 40x4 rms / 130x1 rms (sub ch) 4 ohms "The guy" at the audio store said I need an 100w amp kit which contains an 10 g wire with 30 amp fuse. I thought I would need at least an 8 g wire? I will be running two 10 inch 8 ohm subs (wired in parallel)...any thoughts

    I would go at least 8ga. I wouldn't run 300 watts thru 10ga.

    Re: Amp power wire question

I agree with rockman. Why do things more than one time. I would even go with a 4 ga wire to a terminal block, and split it there. Only for this reason. If you are like the rest of us, YOU WILL ALWAYS WANT MORE. If you think ahead and have your system expandable you will not have to run power wire again. ALSO the gound wire in most amp kits are WAY TO SMALL. I always go one size up on my ground wire. It will save you a lot of problems later on.

I agree with pavengmike6. Go with a 4 ga. In case you ever expand in the future. Got to wal-mart and get a 4 ga wiring kit there. They have a pretty nice one with everything you need for $25 or so. It is a sochse efx. Has rca cables. 16 ft of 4ga red power. Distribution block and 80 amp fuse and holder and more.
