New amp, new wiring...please help out...

I am getting my new amp to power my new subs, so I figure I better place an order to upgrade the wiring due to the increase in power.

I got a 130 amp alternator and the amps are fuse rated at 90 (Tsunami DB1100) and 60 (Rockford 400a4) amps.

I currently have the car wired with one of those Rockford Dual amp kits. Basically 4ga under the hood to a distribution block that splits to 8ga to each amp. I have the Rockford and a tiny little MTX in there now.

This is what I am thinking, starting under the hood.

*0/1ga - 16 ft (power and ground) (to the back of a 4Runner)
    *Inline Fuse Holder
    *150 amp ANL fuse
    *Distribution Block
*4ga to the Tsunami - 8 ft (power and ground)
    *Inline Fuse Holder
    *80 amp AGU Fuse
*8ga to the Rockford (I think 8ga is the most it can accept) - 8 ft (power and ground)
    *Inline Fuse Holder
    *60 amp AGU Fuse
    *Ground Distribution Block

How have I done with my first pass at this? Too much, too little? Please help out. I really don't know what I am doing here.

Will I be able to salvage any of the wiring and fuse holders that is already in place. I figure I could at least use my 4ga power wire that is in the car now to run from the Dist Block to the Tsunami. Maybe I am wrong.

I was planning to order this at knukonceptz.com.

Looks good. Keep your ground under 8 feet if you can.

When I said 8 ft (ground and power) I meant that I would use 5-6 for power and the reaminder for ground.

Those look like the correct fuse sizes and all?

Anything reuseable from my current setup? Everything if it is the right length? Its barely two months old.

You can reuse the 4 guage from your current wiring and possibly the fuse holder if it will accept 1/0 gauge wire.

You may also want to look into a fused distrobution block so you don't need to buy two more inline fuse holders, then you can use your current distro block as a ground junction.

    Otherwise, looks good.

    Pete,

I thought about that. I need to double check if they have one that accepts 1/0. What I didn't know was that if it has 4ga output, does that mean it also has 8 ga output? Basically will the input/output handle the stated guage and anything smaller?

The 1/0 is going to be a good idea. You can reuse all the 4 ga that you have. I would get a few feet, maybe 3, of black 4 ga to keep the power and ground from getting confused. You don't need a ground distro block. Just put a ring terminal on the ground wire of each amp and bolt them to the same ground point. There's one less component to buy. You can use the inline fuse holder you have now for the Tsunami amp but you will need an 8 ga compatible one for the RF. This one will do. I would get this distro block. It has inputs for 1/0 and either 4 or 8ga output. There are adapter collars in the output terminals that reduce the hole to the size needed for the smaller wire but are removable for use with the 4 ga. Without those you will not get a good, solid connection. I doubt that the inline fuse holder you have now will accept 1/0 wire. This one will. You want to use as little smaller wire (4 and 8 ga) as possible for maximum power transfer. I cannot imagine a setup where you will not be able to get your distro block within 3' of the amps, and closer is better.

Make sure you have a way to connect the 1/0 to your battery. Make sure you upgrade the battery ground and the cahrging lead from the alt to the battery and the ground strap from the engine block to the chassis.

That should do you up nicely. Ask if you have any more questions.
