if i have a 110 amp alternator and i wanted to get an 2500-3000 watt amp, how big of an alternator would i need to get without putting an extra battery in the trunk?
also, would i need to upgrade the stock battery?

Definitely upgrade the stock battery, preferably an XS Power battery. Alternator id say at least 200amps, go with DC Power Engineering they make awesome underrated alts. I have one.
You're still more than likely going to need at least one extra battery for that amount of power. The current draw will drain the battery and drop the voltage quickly, even off one upgraded battery up front.

you may be able to pull it off, your still likely to get dimming, even if your voltage isnt actually dropping at the amp.

The voltage is going to drop on transients unless you back that alt with some battery. Don't care how big the alt is.
