getting 12 gauge speaker wire through door grommets

basically there's a grommet on the door, then a goes through a rubber tube then through another grommet on the body of the car right next to the hinges

I'm having trouble getting my speaker wires through, its a very tight fit and there's not a lot of room to work with. What do you guys suggest doing? I've tried using a hanger and taping the speaker wire and pulling it through but that did not work as well as I had hoped. Any other suggestions?

I'm only using 12 gauge wire cause that's what came with the kit. Using 16 gauge would make the job slightly easier.

Drill a hole, and use rubber tubing from a hardware store to cover it.

That's exactly what i dont want to do. I know it is possible to get it through, as many other Camry owners have done it.

Start pulling panels. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry out just the ends of the rubber hose between the door jam and the car. Feed your speaker wire into the hose and then guide it into the door. (You will have to grab the wire and pull it through into the door.) Once that is done- you are halfway home. Secure the Rubber Hose to the door again, and then feed the speaker wire through the gromet hole and into the car.

This is where you will have to use a flashlight if needed and locate where the speaker wire enters the car.

Generally- feed as much wire through as you can, and then look and feel under the dash for that wire. Be sure that you disconnect the - battery terminal before doing this, as there are several electrical connections under the dash.


Running wires into the doors really isn't that bad, it's just one of those jobs that you have to struggle with once, and after you get it, it will never be a problem again.

And unless you're running a few hundred watts there, 16 gage should be fine.

Try greasing it up first? Some vaseline or lube should hook you up good.
then just slide it on thru and clean everything up....

the funny part is, the kicker midbass driver's i have in the doors can't even accept 12 gauge wire. But it's what came with the kit and I don't feel like buying more wire.

i'd say just run 16ga. I just delt with the same issue on my 86.5 supra. HEADACHE to say the least. pull all the panels to be sure

Go to best buy and go to the home theater section and look through their selection of rcas and such and you should find speaker in assorted length and guage in plastic bags. I found 100" or 50" I cant remember now I bought one or the other for only 9 bux. Good stuff too.

Well I was able to do the passenger side by cutting the tube and doing one part and then the other. But the driver's side had even more metal in the way so I just went to the local car audio shop and had them do it for me... they charged $15, which is a little much I guess but saved me from hours of frustration. Now I'm having trouble getting the carpet back over all the wires so that it snaps back into place. I can't get the trim back in cause of that and that means I can't get the kickpods in so I'm running midbass in the door and stock rears Gonna have someone clean it up for me since I'm too frustrated with it.
