sound cuts off at higher volumes

i bought the following stuff last week.......

    alpine (50W x 4)
    2 X 300W speakers
    2 X 90W speakers
    1 X 1000W amp (1/2 - ch)

so i connect the 2X90W speakers to the front L and R of the head unit and the 2X300W speakers to the amp.

For 4 days after installation the sound would start to distort at about two-thirds the total volume of the head unit which was understandable coz a 1000W amp was powering 2x300W of speakers.........

........... but today if I raised the volume of the h.u. to above one-thirds of the total , the amp would poweroff.

    what could be the problem.

I'll be getting the following stuff soon
    1 X 500W amp (125Wx4 stereo/250Wx2 mono)
    1 X 1000W sub

Re: sound cuts off at higher volumes

thanks man.........just found out the problem......it was the internal amp protection that got started coz I was supplying too much juice to the 6X9's......so i got a smaller amp and plastered my 6x9's to it and got a sub that i hooked up to my 1000W amp...........now the sound insude the car is something..............even if i hit the max volume of my h.u the vocals, high notes even the 80-100Hz bass sounds crystal.

The only downside is when it hits the 30-60Hz frequencies.......maybe because of confinement problems i had to make a smaller box than the recommended size.

    btw the specs are
    alpine cda-9807
    2 X Kenwood KFC-1096
    2 X Kenwood KFC-6969ie 6x9"
    2 X 90W speakers
    1 X Kenwood KAC-729 amp
    1 X 500W Tonado TA-40 amp
    1 X Kenwood KFC-W1005DB Car - Subwoofer

the front left and rights from my h.u drives the KFC-1096's....the two rear left and rights channels from my h.u. goes into an electronic crossover which divides the midrange and the subs into the Tonado TA-40 and KAC-729 respectively.

Now that my old problem is gone - i have a new one.......the engine sound that somehow has found its way in my 6x9's
I think it has to to with the grounding.....
I have been told that if you buy cheap stuff as the tonada this is what I would get..........

..........please help ..... how many other ways i can ground an amplifier.

Re: sound cuts off at higher volumes

the 6x9's give a whining sound if the engine gets raised than the sound gets raised........very annoying to me.

both the amps are under the front seats and screwed to the carpet along with the crossover. Each of the three components have got their own grounding

what do u mean by it being sanded?.......you mean taking out the oxide layer that forms on metals by scraping sandpapers ...... coz no i haven't because it was a new wire .............but i will now and see what happens.

I also saw a noise filtering device at one of the shops, this device is to be attached to the wires that come out out the h.u. it has its own grounding fascility........has anyone used this device and was it successful in taking out the whine?.........

Re: sound cuts off at higher volumes

hey guys......i installed the filtering device i was talking about and guess what..........the whine is gone.....what u do is install this device to your h.u. and feed your amp(s) through this device and enjoy your system at low or high volumes you choose.

btw the full name for this device is Engine Filter : 10-20A Noise suppressor........i got it for $F14 which would be around $US6.50

Re: sound cuts off at higher volumes

The only problem is noise suppressors also suppress sound,
you lose some SQ more noticably in the highs, I dont like them and dont use them, you are better off finding the real source of the problem and fixing It, IMHO
