    Subwoofers and speakers

I wanna get at least two 12" subs and don't know what to really get. I listen to a lot of hip-hop, so I need bass. Could you please give me suggestions about which subs to get, and what amp to drive it? I don't have a lot of money, so I need stuff that's kinda cheap.

when you say 'not a lot of maoney', exactly how much are you talking about? And does this budget cover the entire system, or just the subs? What vehicle are putting this in? Are you doing the install yourself? Are you looking for decent bass to add to your vehicle, or do you want the loudest possible boom for your buck?

I have money, I just don't want to spend a lot. I'm thinking of spending $500 on just subs and amps alone because I have everything else, maybe a little bit more, but most likely less. I wan't loud bass that shakes everything, or the loudest I can get for the money. I'm going to probably have someone else install the system cause I know someone and he'll do it for me. The car I'm putting the system in is a 1995 chevy Impala SS.

www.onlinecarstereo.com - 2 Rockford Fosgate HE 12inch ($100 each), Rockford Fosgate punch 360.2 power series amp - $290 OR JBL 600.1 amp at www.thezeb.com for $220. The JBL may be a better bang for your buck. I'm not sure how well the JBL amp will run at 2ohms bridged, so you may need dual voice coil subs. If this is the case you could also use a 15 inch Rockford HE2. I used one of these with a Rockford 360.2 (non-power series) and it was really decent.

Another idea would be Cerwin-Vega 12 inch Vega series subs ($139 each, dual voice coil) with the JBL 600.1 - There are many other good options, but this is what I would look for in your situation. You will also have to buy or build a box and an amp install kit. A box will run you $75 to $100 bucks, and an 8 guage amp kit will run you about $30 - $50. For the amp kit, I wouldn't buy into the high priced Rockford kits or Monster cable kits. Lightning audio makes a more affordable kit that work just fine, or check out www.knukonceptz.com Also, for the box, I would use a ported over the sealed (better boom).

To help clear up any confusion that I caused, many amps are only stable to 4 ohms bridged. If this is the case, then you will need subs with dual 4 ohm voice coils. I have heard that the Rockford will run fine at 2ohms bridged even though it is against manufacture specs. If an amp is stable at 2ohms bridged, then you could use just about any sub (single or dual voice coil). For further (and better) explanation of the technical side of caraudio check out www.soundwavescs.com
