System I just wired not as loud as I thought itd be

hey, i am new to this board, and i just installed a rockford fosgate 401S (1200 watt) Amp, 2 700 watt adiobahn 12" subwoofers, and a cap and had just the subwoofers and a 600 watt legacy amp.. and for some reason my subs dont sound as good as i thought they would.. i feel like the legacy amp i had installed before hit harder... but i wouldnt think it would.. is there something im doing wrong? i was thinkin it maybe because my box was made for a truck (i got a car so half of it is on the back, the other half sticks out into the trunk) so maybe it could be the box, but does a wider box really help? and yes, it does sound alot clearer the bass, but my friends kicker comp squares(10")and 145 watt amp STILL feel like they hit harder than mine, and i dont know why

try facing the subs to the rear and tell us your voice coil configuration

you may be running 8 ohms to the subs as opposed to 1, 2 or even 4

you've been installing your own stuff, yet you don't understand ohm's law?

time to ask more and more questions, mate!~

as for the current problem, try to fiddle more with the settings ont he RF amp first..

well, ohm is a measure of resistance. Less resistance means more power.

Your amp cant really take 2ohm (if it's a punch series) but you can't really hurt the amp to try, cause if it's under toomuch load, it has a fail-safety feature.

a cap...I refuse to go into that. If you think it'll work, it'll work. If you think it won't, it wont. I use a cap, and it reduced my dimming somewhat, that's all I have to say about that.

As for the amp, yeah, try to get a 701S instead. Your sub, you said 700w, would that be RMS or PEAK?

Re: System I just wired not as loud as I thought itd be

ok, if it's peak, then let's say about 350w RMS... so that'd be 700w RMS for both subs...

so get an amp that's 700w RMS @4ohm mono or 700w RMS @ 1ohm mono.

Mono or bridged, it should represent the same thing..

well, with 400w RMS, it still should've been loud. Anyway, a 700w RMS amp would more likely be abetter match foryour subs.

Maybe you should KEEP the amp, and sell the subs for something else.
