2 subs into a mono amp?

Alright, i'm not even sure if this is possible......but in theory it should work. I'm by no means an expert at car audio installation so I just wanted to confirm this with someone who knows more about it than i do.

I'm wondering if it's possible to wire two 4ohm subs in series into a mono amp. I recently bought a RF 300s which puts out 300W at 4 ohms when bridged but only 75W per channel in 2 channel operation. I have 2 Alpine SWS1241 12" subs rated for 200W rms. Running them at 75W would be too little power, however, if i hook them up in series with a mono configuration from the amp, each one should pull 150W (since by doubling the resistance it should just cut the wattage in half). Am i crazy or will that work?

You are definitely not crazy, but the only fault I see in your idea is that if those subs are single voice coil, if you wire them in series you will be running them at 8 ohms. Then you could bridge them for 8 ohms bridged.

If you wired speaker in series (8 ohms) and ran your amp in mono you would only be putting out 150Watts Total. If you wire your speakers in Parallell (2 ohms)you will be pushing 600W Total and might damage your speakers. You might be able to get away with this if your speakers are in a sealed box which is just the right size or smaller. If your cut-off freq is rather high I would run in stereo mode and see how that sounds.
