amp goes into protection when car starts

Sometimes when i start my car, my brutus lights up but the light is red. I think it is because the voltage is low but i dont know why it is doing this. is this normal? i am thinking of making a switch on my remote wire so I can shut off my amps and then turn them back on with the voltage higher so it will work. any other suggestions?

Re: amp goes into protection when car starts

Hmm....Yes I see what your saying, when you go to start your car the amplifer comes on but then when you turn the key to start, the starter drains all the power from the amp causing the amp to see a very low input voltage. But im not quite sure why this would cause the amp to go into protection mode. Have you tried turning your h/u off starting your car and then turning it back on. If this helps it you might wind up having to turn your h/u everytime you stop your car and turn it on again after you start it but this just seems extremely odd to me, ive never heard anything like this before.

Re: amp goes into protection when car starts

i never have seen it either. i dont think it is when there is low voltage because my other amp on the same remote wire starts fine, it just does it every now and then and im not sure why. ill try turning the key on to let the amp start then starting the car and see how good that goes. ill post my status on this tomorrow again

maybe its not wired correctly? i know the brutus can handle a 1ohm load, maybe wires are touching or something?

Re: amp goes into protection when car starts

usually the HU shuts off when starting the car anyway which in turn shuts off the amp, Unless the ignition wire that goes to the HU is joined str8 to the battery ... juss a possibility

can you turn your radio on without the key in the car??\

    if so, thats your problem

nope, i have a radar detector and most of the time when it doesnt come on, the radar detector is on. it also has a voltimiter on it and when it is below 11.5 volts it doesnt come on. the remote wire is hooked up to the dimmer wire. would this change anything?

hook the remote wire to the amp. the dimmer wire is used for dimming the head unit when you turn on your headlights. most installs dont even use the dimmer wire anyway

You should check your speaker connections. The #1 reason amps go into protect is faulty wiring. Speaker combinations are the quickest to fail. Take them each off and wire it to your completer satisfaction.
