    Guage power wire

Right now I have 8guage power wire coming in from the battery that is going to my current amp which only puts out 350w rms. I am thinking about buying a Hifonics 1500w amp and I would like to know what size power cable I will need. Will 4 guage power/ground wires be enough for 1500w or will I need to go with 0-2 guage wire? Thanks!

Also, what size In-Line fuse would I need? 80amp be alright?

P.S. I just noticed on the description on the amp it says, "olded 4-gauge power connections and speaker terminals." 4 guage should be fine shouldn't it?

You're definitely on the low side. If your power wire is no more than 12' long it would probably be worth trying, but if you're going to be running the hifonics amp hard and/or you have an unusually long power wire I would definitely step up to at least 2 ga, and if you went with 1/0 you'd have room to upgrade again.

If the terminals on the amp are only 4guage, will I be fine with a 4guage wire? How big would the fuse need to be as well?

    Re: Guage power wire

i think 4awg would be good, BUT if you are gonna run another amp for speakers then u might as well save urself the truoble n just get 2 awg or 0/1 awg.

then you could just use a distro to split it into a 4awg n 8awg n put the 4awg to the hifonics. or u canb just get a wire terminal i think they called - they allow u to use a bigger awg input, so it's easier to connect - and just connect it straight to the amp.

just remmeber, use the same awg of ground as ur power wire.

    if u running a distro w the 2awg power, n 4awg & 8awg outputs, then run a 4awg * 8awg ground from the amps to ANOTHER NONFUSED distro n then run a 2 awg Ground from there.

how big the fuse rating? well, how big is the fuse rating in the amp? i usu go by that, just use a fuse rating that's close to the fuse rating in ur amp.
