    2nd battery installation AND alternator rewire HELP please

    OK, i ordered a 200 amp alternator from www.mean-green.com it is a direct bolt-on replacement for my stock alternator. I'm also ordering today 25ft. 1/0 awg red welding cable and 10ft. 1/0 black welding cable. I'll be installing my new alternator myself, and want to re-wire with 1/0 red wire...any tips? Basically i just need to run pos. from my starting battery to the alt in 1/0 and use 1/0 black to ground the starting battery correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    AND i'm picking up an optima yellow top this week. I'll be putting that in the back to run my off of it! Now, what all do i need...? an isolator/regulator? How do i go about installing this second battery? Run pos. from the batt. to the alt...and ground it in the rear? and do i need anything else other than the isolator? thanx soo much guys, and if u know any cheap places for any other equipment i need to install this (isolator, etc.) LMK...thanx, peace

    Ive never done that kind of thing before but this is what i would do, ron 0 gauge to the trunk, then have that go the second battery, install your isolator under the hood, ground the second batt to the fraim, and call it a day..... as far as the charging system to the altenator ive never done that and as you know im kinda out of car audio right now so i cant help you off the top of my head

    werd, i'm confused bout EXACTLY what i need to buy to get this battery in and run right! like...battery terminals....i can get some wit 0/1 input and 2 4awg output....then i don't really need a distro block right? i could just run an inline fuse to each 4awg? and what size anl for an avionixx1200.2....like 100amp of 150amp...hopefully i'll get some help later tonight! thanx tho, just wanna get this **** straight b4 i order all the components to install it...hopefully be doing it and get doen next week.

    Have you thought about buying a high ouput alternator with dual outputs? This would eliminate the isolator.

    If you got 2 new optima yellow batteries at once.. you could probably run the two batteries in parallel. To do that the batteries would need to be identical and the same age! Just a thought. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the isolator or regulator. I'm sure somebody with a little more knowledge could chime in.

    To my knowlege, an isolator is used to seprate the 2 batteries from being discharged at the same time and yet charge the 2 batteries at the same time.

    A regulator is used with the alternator. It regulates the voltage to the battery(ies).

    I am currently running a 180a alt with 2 die-hard golds. I have run 2 bats ever since i can remember. I have never used an isolator. I want to the power of both bats for the system. As for a deep cycle bat., I don't think (and have also heard) it's not a good idea with a ho alt. The purpose of a deep cycle is to cahrge and discharge slowly. An ho alt wil be trying to charge it quickly.
