im new. how to install 4-CH amp?

Hey guys im pretty sure im getting a Pioneer Premier PRS-X340. The only thing is i dont wanna pay $100CAN min to get some guy install it.

right now i have an RF 300S amp running my 2 10" Pionner TS-W255C subs. I bought an 8 guage wiring kit for the guys at future shop to install my amp (i got no parts/wires left over given back to me). Im wondering, to run these two amps (the PRS-X340 going to my 4 speakers) what additional parts I will need.

My HU is a Pioneer 5500MP. Therefore it has 2 pairs of pre outs, 1 sub and 1other. The RF amp is connected to the sub pre out.

after you guys tell me what parts I need, could anyone give me specific directions on how to install it. ie. what wire to what device, and so on.

Any input at all would be great!!!
thanks, you guys here at caraudio.com are great!

Re: im new. how to install 4-CH amp?

ur gonna need another set of RCA's to run ur amp to ur deck, speaker wire to connect everything, ground wire, power wire, and remote wire

and i also think u need a distributor block to have both amp power wires going to ur battery

    i think

Not to be a jerk or anything, but do you even have a clue to as what you are doing as far as amp installs and wiring goes? I know when I did my first install, I knew what I was doing, it just took me a long time to set everything up right the first time.

That aside... You COULD buy a distribution block (4 gauge) that will distribute a 4 gauge wire to two 8 guage power wires for your amp. This would be the nice clean way to do it and would require you pulling your current 8 gauge wire out and running a new 4 gauge wire. Or you could just run another 8 gauge wire lol, but since you gotta pull your car apart anyways, I suggest you use the distribution block. Here's the type of distribution block you'd need: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...ore=&catid=300 .

Re: im new. how to install 4-CH amp?

You wire the 2nd amp just like the first one. Power, ground, RCA's, remote wire, and speakers. Power wire like the others said... either an additional 8 gage or use a 4 gage and split it to the 2 amps. Remote wire you can just tap into (jumper from the new amp to your old one).

For RCA connections you can use "Y" cables to split the rear RCA's into 2 sets and drive both amps. Or if your sub amp has preouts, you can run from there to the rear channel inputs on your 4 channel amp.

Since you're using the rear preouts of your HU to run both subs and full-range speakers, you'll have to make sure the HU is not set for sub-out mode or all you'll get from the rear speakers is bass. Gotta use the lowpass mode on the sub amp instead.

    .
No way. You should never use Y adapters unless there is NO other way. When you use Y adapters you are splitting your input signal therefore degrading it. He's using his "sub" rca output right now, therefore only low frequencies are going through it. If he changes that to full range he's gonna be sending highs to his sub amp. He has another pre out on his deck, a full range pre out, so all he has to do is run that back to the trunk to his new 4 channel amp. When they get to the 4 channel amp they WILL need 1 female to 2 male "Y" adapters (2 of them). because on that amp there will be a left and right rca input for both front and rear (channel A and channel B is how its labeled on Prs-x340). Other than that I agree with Maylar on using a 4 gauge wire to the trunk and then splitting it via a distribution block to (2) 8 gauge wires, one to each amp.

Re: im new. how to install 4-CH amp?

guys can i power one pioneer sub TS-W121SPL , with the 4 channel amp PRS-X340 ??
it can be bridgable to 2 channels ,
and my sub is 4 ohm DVC , so i will be runin each channel to a voice coil , but that will still be 4 ohm right ??
so i connect the voice coils together and put the 2 channel at one voice coil or what ???

Re: im new. how to install 4-CH amp?

You most certainly can. I use 2 340s, one to each sub. Bridged into 2 channel, one channel to each voice coil. Just make sure your gains are matched so that each coil is getting the same power.

Re: im new. how to install 4-CH amp?

Well, in my opinion they hit really nice. But then again, I'm an SQ guy and what seems hard hitting to me may not to you. But either way a 340 will put out about 600 rms to a DVC sub.
