i would still upgrade the power wire to at least 4awg.yes,it does make a difference in the sound, may not be much, but it does make a difference at least im my installs.

i plan on it sometime soon.
for now im just trying to get everything to at least work, and i want to get the subs well broken in before i upgrade wire, hopefully in a few weeks i can run some 4gauge. the 1/0 i have is stiffer than a mother.. so bending it a lot in a truck would just be a pain in my ***.
Bigger wire than necessary is never a bad thing, unless you are talking about your wallet. Using a larger wire on one side than the other can be a bad thing if the ground is the smaller wire. If the ground wire is bigger than the positive wire, there should be no problem with that.
But I will say this, my picky *** wants all the wires to match. I would never run different wires, even though it should be OK to do so.
How did the ground go?
My guess is that you have the impedance to low for your amp. What coils do you have and how do you have it wired?

ok, im bumping this because i still have the problem..
When i play a song almost all the way up after about 10 seconds pop, blows the fuse..
i have a really good ground, is it i might be clipping the amp? i havent set the gains with a DMM just set them to what i thought was a safe level (ie not clipping)
i still have 8 gauge wire and the wire that connects to the batt is 8 gauge then about 3 inches later its crimped with really small yellow wire with a 30A fuse than it goes back to the 8 gauge.
if i upgraded to 1/0 and a 200A fuse would this solve the problem? because i really dont want to replace 200A fuses..
This is what the fuse i have on it looks like (same one)

x2 on pulling to much current through that itty bitty 8 ga. wire. Good rule of thumb is to add 10 amps to the total fuse rating on the amp. So if you have 60amp fusing( 2 30amp fuses ) you should have a 70amp fuse or higher in front of the amp.

could i just take my 1/0 distro block and run it through instead of that yellow junk, or would the wire be to small?
personally i think 8 ga. is too small. That's what I use for speaker wire. LOL

yes upgrade to at least 4 gauge power and ground..
i have bigger wire than that for my speaker wire,

Your 8 gauge wire is probably good for about 50A tops. If the amp can only pull 40A (internal fused) then you should be fine. Get yourself a 50A fuse and you should be good to go.
