Eliminating Speaker Noise (from amp to head unit)

Ok so I have a constant noise in my speakers that does not variate when the volume is turned up or down (only goes away when volume is turned to 0). The noise is there with the car on and off (in acc mode) and I know its not engine noise or alternator whine because it doesn't fluctuate nor is it a popping its more like a static.

I have pin pointed it to my stereo patch cables that go from my amplifier into my head unit. They are cheap blue ones which are not twisted or anything so here is my question.

To get rid of this noise should I buy some of those more expensive twisted cables that are suppose to eliminate noise

or should i buy 2 ground loop isolators and hook them on my old cables

which do you think would be a for sure fix because I don't want to dump my money with no results.

This sounds like floor noise. Are you POSITIVE your gains are set correctly? I had this EXACT hiss coming from my highs for a long time.
What HU and what preout voltage are you running?
    Also what amp?

Re: Eliminating Speaker Noise (from amp to head unit)

I would suspect it's your head unit. If it totally goes away when the volume is set to 0, it's not a ground loop problem..

Re: Eliminating Speaker Noise (from amp to head unit)

    performance teknique amp icbm775 50W x 4ch

its in a 65 mustang the headunit is made by custom autosound rated 240 watts

ive had 2 different head units but both have noise

i moved my power wire to the other side of the car and it significantly decreased the noise

could it be my cheap rca cables?

my grounds are good although one is in the back of the car (the amp) and the head unit one is in the front

ground your RCA cables to your headunit.

Re: Eliminating Speaker Noise (from amp to head unit)

just unplugged rca cables from head unit and directly into my ipod (using one of those component to line out things) and the noise is still their so its definitely not the head unit

Re: Eliminating Speaker Noise (from amp to head unit)

Oh yea i forgot to mention i also plugged my ipod directly into the amp where the rca cables are supppose to go and no noise

so im guessing i have found my problem in the rca cables themselves

so now do you guys thing better quality twisted/copper cables will do the trick or am i still going to have noise?

Re: Eliminating Speaker Noise (from amp to head unit)

You may have to go with shielded RCAs. I am not an old car guy and maybe there is something with the stock wiring that is different from today's cars. Good that you got it narrowed down though.
