    Re: Mechman Alternators

This is what Matt @ Mechman emailed me in regards to a group buy:

"At our current pricing, we can’t really go down any further in cost. Up until the first of the month, our complete large case conversion kits averaged $700 by the time you bought the adapter harness, the bracket, and the alternator. They were priced that high because there is actually 4-6 hours of labor per kit just in building the bracket, assymbling the alternator, machining the case, modifying the regulator, assembling the adapter harness, and dyno-testing the unit. (nobody else offers the applications that we do for this reason) We have just recently put all of our conversion kits on sale for $449 COMPLETE, so that it is easier and faster to quote on the forums. We expect prices to go up at the end of the month; if they do we could then have room to do a group-buy discount ."

Sorry folks, but I am still considering using them for my alt.

    Re: Mechman Alternators

Regarding the F150 group buy, the fullsize Ford trucks do not require any case modification, so we could probably work something out there on a group buy...

(no brackets or plugs to make = lower cost)

We got the blue-prints all loaded up, just waiting on the cases to come back from the machine shop.

-and I think I found a way to enlarge the charge post on your stock unit in case you ever need to put it back to stock

That's the idea. We just did a bunch for some Diesel Toyota Landruisers that have been turned into armored transports in Iraq. The heat over there just tears up the small-case units when they are worked that hard.

    Re: Mechman Alternators

What about an alt for my 90 Daytona? It uses a nippendenso alt which was used on alot of chrysler vehicler. I know they can go atleast 160amp as the Durango 5.9 could be gotten with a 160amp alt but what about 200 or more? I got a quote from highoutputalternator for $650 for a 200amp alt. Well before I do that I will fab up some brackets and run 2 stock 120 amp units. Any help?

is it a bosch style alt? If it is i have to change brackets. The earlier fwd cars had a bosch unit but had some different bracketry. Or will it bolt to my brckets for i think around 88up

    Re: Mechman Alternators

Our unit is a custom machined late model large case alternator that we have developed so that it bolts into the stock Daytona brackets. We include an adapter plug so that your stock wiring plugs into the new unit.

We do it this way because the design of the alternator is much better than the Bosh or Mitsu style alternators from a durability standpoint, and it physically can produce much more amperage without loosing output at idle.
