    Car Amp Install Help

    Hey,

I'm replacing my 4 channel amplifier to another 4 chan amp, and looks like I need some help doing this. From what I can see, it's pretty simple REPLACING an existing amp, as all the connections will be same to the new one. So, I took out all my RCA Cables, Speaker wires, and Ground, Remote, +12v cables from the Old AMP and now I'm putting them in the new Amp..But, when I try to put the GRND, And Battery cables into the slots in my amp, that **** SPARKLES!!! WTF, Why is it sparkling? This scared the **** outta me..how do I correctly put the GRND, BATTERY, Cables into the slot without sparks?

    Re: Car Amp Install Help

no real need to disconnect the negative battery terminal....it will spark on occasion when you make power connections on an amplifier. It should do it one quick time and that is all if ti continue s then you have a problem. Oherwise dont worry about just keep doing what you are doing

    Re: Car Amp Install Help

thanks all...I took the Neg Cable out, and now no sparks ...but I'm having trouble putting the cables into the slots on the amp..Looks like these cables are very thick, and not all the copper wirings are fitting in flush...when I tighten it, the cables are not 100% in...whats the best approach to putting these cables in?

    thanks

    Re: Car Amp Install Help

its due to the engineering on the INfinity amp with the down facing terminals is most likely the reason your having problems tightening them correctly. and its really a must to disconnect your Neg. terminal of your battery unless you want blown fuses..IMO

Fo sho. Nobody likes to replace a $2 fuse.

Try cutting the end off the wire and restripping it. I've done that and it helps.

i only do it when interfacing with delicate vehicle elctronics or if removing apart of a vehicle that is connected to an airbag. When doing amp installs i dont take them off as the last thing i do is pop the fuse in my power wire after everything is done and installed. Not to mention that testing for wiring is pretty difficult with no ground

Just shove it in fast and it'll only spark once.

As said, remove the - battery cable or pull the fuse from your power wire.
