That used to be the case when batteries casings were made out of wood or something like that but does not apply anymore.

I think actually it will lose a charge faster than if its on wood or on a shelf but it takes like 5 years or something

Re: is it bad to leave battery on ground?

just look it up on google.

johnson controls (a battery maker) said this was a case of coincidence. the problem used to come because the material was very sensitive and easily damaged. the problem would happen because when you set it on the concrete you would sometimes do it to hard and slam it down a little, thus causing internal damage. the plates i believe would short out on each other and start to discharge.

therefore people linked the concrete with causing the battery to discharge when in fact it was the damage that was caused to the battery while you set it down that made it discharge.

    I always thought it did.

I guess all that taking out a piece of cardboard was for nothing.

i suppose its possible that the cardboard could dampen the impact enough so no damage is caused internally, so maybe it wasn't completely for nothing

dont worry bro ive been doing it for years and to this day (like yesterday) even though i know its a myth, i still think twice about it when setting them on the garage floor for extended periods

See you younger guys have the luxery of the internet to teach you what the myths are, these old myths and rules-of-thumb were all us older guys had to go off of in the early days My "internet" was Car Audio and Electronics and Car Stereo Review Magazine.....thats it. (back in the late 80's early 90's). Thank god for the internet (sometimes) because even though im set in my ways on alot of stuff i still learn something new all the time.....even from someone 15 yrs younger sometimes!

Re: is it bad to leave battery on ground?

well if the concrete is cold then wouldn't that make it discharge faster...or at least not put out as much cracking power? I work with truckdrivers and they all swear by it....maybe it's a myth in the south but reality in the north because the concrete never gets real cold?
