cost to repair amp

Just wondering what everyones experiences are with sending an amp in for repair to JL audio....how much will I pay wait time etc...the amp went into protect yesterday...I let the speaker leads touch on channels 3+4 while I was setting the gain on 1+2....and now it won't come out....

it would be cheaper to send it in to some one like this, db-r.com I got quoted 90-120 for my problem and estimates are free with a 30day warranty

The only reason I want to send it to Jl is because I think they will be the only ones who can fix it right...

It is an odd design... if you want to try db-R contact him first to see if he knows about the JL amps. He will be straight with you as he doesn't want to receive an amp that he can't fix any more than you want to send it to someone who can't fix it I deal with Chris @ db-R all the time, good guy.

Thanks Jake. So you know about this amp? I would think it should come out of protect after whatever is causing it to go into protect is eliminated. don't see any reset button though...lol.

Yeah so I sent the amp off to chris at dB-r...hopefully it works out...I called JL and they told me I had to go through a dealer...I got it at cost so I didn't really want to take it back to where I bought it from because I didn't want the kid who sold it to me to get in trouble...that and I don't think he works there anymore...lol so yeah I think they would have tried to **** me over if they figured out I got it at cost.

Well the amp is already on it's way back to me...Blew a FET....Chris at dB-r only had it for about 4-5 days tops...figured it would be a week or two at least....Now hopefully UPS doesn't use my package as a football,kickstand, punching bag or work bench on it's way back.
