noob question, difference in 4 ohm and 1 ohm wiring?

I understand all the business with wiring subs, but with the option of wiring a dual 4 sub in either 1 or 4 ohms, whats the benefits of wiring to 4 ohms? only thing i have noticed is that it will probably cost more to get a better amp that can handle the power at 4 ohms. Is there any night and day benefit from doing this? I've never really seen anyone ask this before, so i had to.

dual 4 ohm coils can't be wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohms.

there is no advantage or disadvantage. you wire your subs to get the most out of whatever amp you have at it's rated impedance. my sub amp is running at 4 ohms.

Wiring options. Much easier and cheaper to find an amp thatll push higher wattage at lower resistance, but at the same time giving you the option to wire them to a 4 ohm stable bridged amp.

kk thanks for the answer. I was just always curious about that. seems like in most cases it would cost quite a bit more to run subs at 4 ohms because of the factor of needing a more powerful amplifier. Then i got to thinking maybe wiring is more stable than others, but guess not.

    i run class a/b on my subs. 1400 x 1 @ 4 ohms.

It was my understanding that a lower ohm is more stable...

Higher resistance is always more stable for the amp. You'll always make the amp work less at higher resistance loads.

Subs don't care what the final load is because each coil will always see its nominal impedance.
