Question about the Alt (+) to battery (+) connection. Doesn't the stock wire from the alt (+) go to the starter & ignition then to battery (+)? Would running an additional wire directly from the alt (+) to battery (+) cause problems for the stater or ignition?

Sorry havent had time to go thru all 49 pages of this thread yet, this connection makes me a bit nervous to fry something.

Not in my '08 Silverado...it has an OEM fuse block where the Alternator wire connects to the fuse block such that the fuse is between the Alternator and the + battery post - other than the 175Amp fuse it is a direct connection...the starter wire connection is on the other end of the fuse block meaning that the starter is directly connected to the + post of the battery (no fuse).

So as far as i know all you do is upgarde the: Battery positive to the alt, the battery negative to the chassis, and negative to engine block?

My car already has a fairly large wire on the engine block, im betting its 6 gauge or bigger, not sure. What is the purpose of the engine block ground being upgraded? Is it cuz the alt needs to be grounded?? Im assuming so. So ill possibly upgrade that if that is the reason.

Im planning to do the big 3 with 1/0 klm which should be plenty for my needs right now. I get some pretty good dimming right now. I am using a piece of **** sony amp which may even be an AB amp?? Its a two channel. Ive got 1/0 going to the rear. Ive done the battery to alt with an 8g wire, and the negative to chassis with two 8g wires. Left stock wires there, the stock alt wire looks like atleast 8g. I would assume with that small crappy amp that i would not getting dimming with stock wiring, let alone the added 8g, i mean the amp is maybe 500rms or so.

Well, I figured out the problem, it turns out that little plastic piece where you connect the wire to the alternator is for safety. Be absolutely sure when you connect the wires to the alternator that you are NOT grounding out on the casing of the alternator. It was a fairly small spot that was touching when i hooked mine up, and it was enough to boil the acid inside the battery.

leave stock add 1/0 fusing the alt to battery positive wire would be a safe option.

x2, stock wire isnt fused but its very small and will fail with larger current but hte 1/0 can take large current and if it for some reason fails...

If i have 4ga wire for my system can i use 4 ga for the big 3?or do i have to use 2 ga or 0 gauge?its for a 2000 monte carlo alt amp is 110 and i have a 5500 watt rms amp but i change it constantly to diff amps.so am i ok with runing 4ga and 4ga?
