    Question on installing my subs

    Hey guys,

I bought all the stuff I need:
    • Two 12" Alpine Type R SWR-1242D's
    • HiFonics 1,000w BX1000D
    • Sub Zone Dual 12" Enclosure
    • Directed Speaker wire

I already have my car wired for a system, since my old subs just blew out. Here is where I'm stumped. I need to mount the subs in the box, and get everything working in the car.

    Question #1:
The sub box doesn't come with screws or holes to mount the subs, can I just buy some screws and screw them in by hand into the box?

    Question #2:
Can someone explain to me how I connect the subs to the outer plugs on the box? I know I use speaker wire, but do I need one of those special tools to strip off the rubber on the wire so I can connect both sides?

I apologize for sounding so dumb, but I have never done anythign myself in regards to car audio, and I want to make sure before I screw something up. If there's any other tips you guys can give me for a first timer setting up the box, please share.

    Thanks,
    Dan

just screw those bad boys in, and regarding tha speaker things, if u dont got that crimping tool, just bite tha rubber off.... but make sure u dont bite tha rubber....

a lil ghetto but it gets tha job done

Don't apologize, it really gets annoying

Answer #1: you will need to go to the hardware store, with your sub in hand, and have the guy help you find some screws that will fit them snugly. SHould run around 25 cents a screw. Then go home, put your sub in the box, and predrill all of the holes. finally, screw in the screws

Answer #2: I take it you mean you want to connect it to the terminal cup? You can strip the wire jacket off the ends by either using a wire stripper, or a razor blade. But I like wire strippers much better. As for connecting it to the terminal cup, the easiest way is simply to wrap it around the terminals inside the box and electrical tap them in. But if you want to make sure they are secure, I would recommend soldering them in.

Nobody's heard them. They aren't in production yet. There is no prototype even available. But he should still consider them. They will rock. I promise.
PS: The new Squeaksters will be a midwoofer addition to my subwoofer line, the Squeakinators

Re: Question on installing my subs

Thanks guys! Here is round two of the setting up a box for a complete newbie questions.

    1. How long do the screws have to be? Should they portude completely through the MDF? I have found an old drill my parents have, but the bit seems to be rather thick..

    2. I saw the speaker wire is actually 2 wires surrounded by the rubber, I'm assuming I have to twist the two together before connecting?

    Thanks,
    Dan
