Because to get them to sound right you need the correct air space. And you can't get the space without raising the seat. I raised mine 2.5" for 10s

I was going to raise mine 2-2.5" for the 12's. Are you sure I won't have enough air space, depending on which subs I choose? Also, where could I find the information about how much air space I will actually have to work with? I can get the dimensions I am working with. What vehicle exactly do you have?

I have a 97 z71 extra cab. Yours has a bit more room under the seat. But not much. For a set of 12s to work properly you'll need 1.5-2.5 cubic ft per sub check on the manufacturers website for box specs

Honestly, this is probably the best thing I've come across that's prefab. It's 1.5 cu ft per side with a port.

I built my own. It's 2.65 after sub and port displacement. But just sold my 10s and put my 15s in today. So no back seat for a while. Might sell the box to

2.65 cu ft total or per side? All of the 12's I've looked at require an average of 1.5-2.0 cu ft per side. The box I just listed handled 1.5 cu ft per side, and that's a box without any accommodations for the extra 1.5-2.5" I can get on the top of the box.

Mine is total. After displacement Trust me when I say don't get a prefab just wasting money

I completely agree with you on that. I am just using them as a reference for possible air space. Do you agree that if I add seat spacers and build a box that is 1.5-2.5" deeper, I can gain the extra mounting depth of the box that I need to support the 6.5" mounting depth of the 12's, as well as the extra air space that they need to operate properly?

Also, could you please tell me what answer you come up with for the cu ft of air in this box? I would like to compare answers.

you need inner dimensions not outer

I understand that. I forgot to mention that we're assuming the box is made of 3/4 MDF.

I know, I'm just wondering what you come up with yourself for the actual volume of the box.

After I did measurements to my own truck, the measurements in the blueprints I found do match. I calculated the air space to be 2.383 cu ft total, leaving me with 1.19 per side. Obviously I am not going to be able to find two 12's to match that air space, but I could just run one 12 and be able to cut an amp rack into my box, leaving me with the perfect amount of air space.

On the other hand, if I spaced my seats up 2", I could have a box with 3.1729 cu ft total, leaving me with 1.5864 per side. Therefore, seat spacers would make it possible to run a set of most 12's I've been considering.
