brahma and xxx are nearly interchangeable (brahma has a little more spl, but xxx has a tad more sq, but not noticeable unless ur looking for it) and i dunno about the idmax, but i've heard they slam.

myself and mostly everyone ive talked to has said the opposite about the xxx/brahma...

the idmax doesnt have near the thermal power handling as either of these subs...if your running a low amount of power any of these subs will give killer results if done correctly...but if you want to run 1k+ the xxx and brahma are in a whole other class than the idmax imo

Any of those would make you happy. However, I'd go with the Brahma or XXX in this case, since you are lookin' at getting those in 15" size. If you were lookin' at all 12's, it'd be a tossup either way.

Re: 15" RE XXX vs 15" Brahma MK II vs 12" IDmax 12v3D2

i have a RE XXX 15 and i listen to things like mudvayne SOAD RATM old metallica tool and classic rock like hendrix doors pink floyd as well as the occasion al like little jonanthan and a little puff combs.....

no matter what music i put it on thr SQ of my XXX never ceases to amazme me, even beter since i got it reconed.... it hits just as clean and precise as any 10inch woofer in a sealed setup and i have mine in a 9cubic footported box (gross volume).

..................not to mention it owns at 50Hz and below, at 60Hz and above it could be alittle better but it's not bad at all, it makes up for the disturbingly massive amounts of bass below 50Hz.....

Blah....I hate when people use terminology like that.........It just keeps the old myth going that 10's should for some reason be more accurate than larger subs.

Re: 15" RE XXX vs 15" Brahma MK II vs 12" IDmax 12v3D2

lol no **** that one guy off the carstereo forum still hasnt replied to my last post. 18's can sound as good as 8's but with alot more low end output. i think where things get confused is most manufactuerers went smaller woofers to sell more product, so as an excuse by the sales people of product that doesnt sell/carry or has to special order larger drivers they say the smaller woofer sounds better. you either set it up right or wrong but if its wrong no matter the size of the woofer it will sound like poop. having worked retail and being a rep you find out about half the people want a 1 cft-1.5 cft box sealed and alot of shops want to sell it pre fab to get the sale and install done more quickly and easily. alot of you nuts just dont realize you really arent the normal car audio buff/customer. about 1/3 of you are what i would call a hard core enthusiast

Laws of physics, Squeak. A smaller diameter cone makes for less chance of cone flex or uneven weight, which would result in distortion. On top of that, an 18 would need a 4.5" voice coil to scale with a 10" cone and a 2.5" voice coil. Again, a bigger chance of off-center movement. Not to mention a longer/larger surround, bigger spider, and larger basket, all of which pose the risk of being made off center.
