    Icon32 2 18" RE SX or 2 18" Avalanche

I am going to be getting 2 18's, but I don't know which will get louder. I know the Avs should have better sq, but which can get louder in the same size enclosure? Are the Avalanches worth the price difference? I like the look of the SX better, but that really isn't that important. And if you had to buy them and money wasn't an issue which would you go with?

    Thanks

The Ava's have more linear displacement than the SX's, so they have the potential to get louder with less distortion.

Are 18's even available from RE yet??

    Re: 2 18" RE SX or 2 18" Avalanche

I guess I'm leaning towards the avalanches, but sx is still a possibility. My question is, will 1 kicker kx1200.1 or ed nine.1 power 2 avalanche 18s close to there max. If not would 2 kx600.1 be better. If I got the SX's I would have more money for amps, and could get 2 kx 1200.1 or 2 ed nine.1. Let me know what you all think please.

    Thanks

    Re: 2 18" RE SX or 2 18" Avalanche

You can get the avalanche moving at 600w but most people put around 800-1000 on it. I would throw 2 ed nine.1 on them and you will be a happy man... The 2 kx600 would get it moving well.. but for the 18s I would put more power on it.. I think either way you would be happy.

    Re: 2 18" RE SX or 2 18" Avalanche

IIRC the Avalanches are Dual 2 ohm, and if you wire two of them, that would leave you with either .5 ohm or 2 ohm. Don't the Nine.1 and Kx 1200.1 do their power at 1 ohm? So you would probably need 2 of either amps... One for each sub ...

    Re: 2 18" RE SX or 2 18" Avalanche

SX's do not like low power amounts, in my experience they need 1000 watts to really get kicking. The avalanche performs very well with just about 800 watts ish...dam.n loud.

If I were in your situation, there wouldn't be a question to me as to which subs to get. When you're speaking about 2 18's, and not competing, either will get TOO loud for you to listen to....so IMHO you should base this all on SQ. Avalanche takes the cake for me.

EDIT: both subs are dual 2 ohm, so yes, you'll have to have 2 amps either way or find an amp that does power at 2 ohms. Possibly pick up a jbl1200.1 if you can find one...will give you around 1300 watts.

Well, I guess I could wait longer, and save up for 2 nine.1's to go to 2 ava's, but I would be able to get 2 sx's sooner. I don't know I guess the price difference isn't a big deal since I could make it up in a week or so. But the thing is I was thinking about competing at some point, so with that in mind would I be better with 2 sx or avalanches. Yes, I would like some sq, but I want it as loud as possible too. Hell, maybe I should just try to get those 2 tc 4hp that stupify is selling, lol. Or those new RE prototypes coming out. Do you guys think 1 of those in 18" would outdo 2 sx or ava's(yea I know there isn't much info on them yet)?

    Re: 2 18" RE SX or 2 18" Avalanche

If you get the avalanches, there's no need to get 2 nine.1's...you can get away with about half that power. Pick up a pair of tsunami gxa1000d's...they don't make them anymore, but there's a store on ebay selling them new still for $129+shipping ($160) each. Built on the same board as the lanzar 1200d, they put out a bit over 1000 watts and would match up perfectly for either of your two choices.
