RF 800a2 with RE SE or SX?

i have 2 RF power 800a2 that have a dynamic rating:
Mono into 4 ohm Load: 960 Watts x 1
Per Channel into a 2 ohm Load: 480 Watts x 2
Per Channel into a 4 ohm Load: 240 Watts x 2

RMS Mono into a 4 ohm Load: 500 Watts x 1


I'm thinking of upgrading my subs to either the SE or SX. They will be in a sealed enclosure. I like a good balance of sp/sq. Which sub would best match up to these amps?

I'm not 100% sure... never heard em.. only XXX. With over 900 watts I'd go SX. But I've heard the SE has better SQ. Someone who's had them both help this man out... bump.

Are you sure about those ratings? Cause the 800a2 is rated 800w RMS @ 4ohm bridged. Or are those "dynamic" ratings the ratings from the birthsheet?

If this is the 800a2 you have, rated to put out atleast 800w RMS bridged (probably does put out closer to 1kw RMS), then I'd go for the SX.

i believe its this amp. its the bbq grill amp, but the paint/finish looks slightly different than whats on the picture. my amps are a brushed aluminum finish on the face and painted black inbetween the grills. this pictures looks like its a flat grey painted finish on the whole thing.

That's where you confused me And after looking at the manual, it appears you copied that one from the wrong column

Yes, that amp should give you around 1kw bridged into a 4ohm load. So, I'd still go with the SX.

Thats a nice *** amp, I had one as my first "real" amp. Get the SX, youll be loud.

plz need help, finally got a hold of my local RE distributor. they have thes SX in stock! and he's checking on the SE's. he told me with my amps RF 800a2 (specs listed above), they would not be stable at 1 ohm which the SX's voice coils are set to be wired at. he also said if i wanted to go SX then i'd have to get custom VCs. he advised me that the SE would better suit my application. plz plz someone chime in who knows these amps, and these subs. if i'm lucky, i'll be bumpin new subs today!

SE = dual 4 ohm
SX = dual 2 ohm

As I said in your PM, the SX's coils can be wired in series to 4ohm, which is perfect for that amp bridged. Also, that amp is capable of delivering ~1000w RMS, which again is about perfect for the SX.

All in all, the SX is still the best option for a single sub setup on that amp. The only way I'd do SE's is if you were doing a pair of them.

PS: A single SE would not work for your application because the amp is not stable into 2ohm bridged So, I honestly have no idea what your distributor is thinking.......
