    2 RL-P 12"s sealed OR 1 Avalanche 15" ported to 32hz

Hello, I am having trouble deciding between two setups that will be going into my 2004 GMC sierra extended cab. I wish I had more space...

    Option 1: 2 RL-P 12"s sealed in about 1.3 cuft each w/ 800 watts to each.

    Option 2: 1 Avalanche in a 32hz ported box with about 3 cuft. 1500w

I want to try to achieve SQL with SPL being a little more important then quality. They will all be placed under the bottom of the back seat. I originally had my heart set on 2 RL-P's ported but I soon realized I definately did not have the space.

I am very interested in your guys' opinions, thanks!

I beg to differ, especially with the 15 being ported. A more fair comparison would be a 15 of either Ported.

Either way I would take the Avalanche. I used to run the A series which is a modified TC9 motor (similar to the rl-p), and the avalanche has greater output while retaining all the SQ...may even be a little better.

Interesting, its also $120 cheaper then the RL-p's, hmm.

I'd be a little careful running 1500 to the avalanche though...gets moving VERY nicely off 800-1000.

RL-P's would die on 1500 im pretty sure (i have not tested, and will not test) but going off what mike said they love around 700-800 watts.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be a bit much, I would check with Chad before deciding on the specifics if I were to go with the avalanche route. I am leaning toward the avalanche thus far because its cheaper and it may have very similar output to the two RL-p's sealed.

    Re: 2 RL-P 12"s sealed OR 1 Avalanche 15" ported to 32hz

Why not go with 2 rl-p 12's in a 3-4 cu ft ported box tuned to 30 hz? That should beat the avalanche 15 in output and Im sure the sq between the 2 would really come down to the listener.

    Re: 2 RL-P 12"s sealed OR 1 Avalanche 15" ported to 32hz

The absolute most that I would be able to accomplish would be about 2.7cuft for both of the woofers (I would have to raise the box a little above the ground and have them firing downward because there is not enough space to have them firing forward (only 9" ) I don't know if they would work well in that small of a box, ported. I am really more geared to SPL though... Why oh why cant there be an extra cuft.

2.7 cu ft total factors to about 2.3 or maybe even less NET after port displacement is aco****ed for. II remember the specs correctly this is nowhere near enough volume for an avalanche 15.

It's deffinately not a perfect match....but until this weekend I've got mine in a 2.3 cube box tuned at 32Hz, and it is very loud and sounds phenominal. I will have a better review next week of the sub if all goes well and the box gets built...but look around for the review I did of it in this box. I can guarantee he wouldn't be disappointed.

Sorry, I was unclear, I estimated 2.7 after wood displacement. The actual size I came up with was 2.975 cuft. I may get a seat lift fabricated, which will raise my seat 3-4". With that I will have a little bit over 4cuft to work with.

I've simplified it in my mind this way:

    No seat lift = Avalanche 15" ported at 32hz @ 1000w
    Seat lift = 2 RL-P's ported at 32hz @ 600w each

I assume that the RL-P's will be signifigantly louder then the avalanche, right, because if they are not then I will not go through the trouble of getting the seat lift and spending an extra $175-200.

Slightly louder, yes, significantly louder...not really. You're not talking about a huge difference in displacement between the two. There's about 12% more displacement with the rl-p's and as a rule of thumb you gain 3dB with every 100% increase in cone area. Translation: you will not have a substantial difference in output assuming you're getting full excursion (or better yet, similar excurison) out of each driver.
