Hey i need a little help understanding some of the ohm issues i could run into before buying anything. I want to either run a single 12w6v2 or 2 12w3v2
The 12w6v2 can be run at either 8 or 2 Ohms with its DVC while the 12w3v2 come in 3 types the dual 2, 4 and 6 ohm DVC options. The amp that I want to run them off of is an Earthquake d3 Its specs are 1300watts rms at 4 ohms 2600 at 2ohms and 3000watts at 1ohm
So now what I want to know from all you experts out there, is there any safe way of running either speaker setup I have outlined in a safe manner or will my car smell like overcooked voice coils. I personally enjoy jl bass depite its pricey nature and would like to try and run Jl's only, just a personal prefrence thing. I used the d3 to run 2 13w7's in the past but I want something lighter for my car and would like to try and go to one of their other series. Anyway thanks for whatever you can come up with. layta!

Ok, if you wanted to run a single w6v2, your best option would be to wire the coils in series for an 8ohm load, giving the sub about 650w RMS. Keep it conservative on the gains and you should be good to go there.









If you wanted to go with two of the 12w3v2's, go with the 2ohm/coil option. Then, wire the subs in series-series for a final 8ohm load, giving each sub about 325w RMS.

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel
Connecting the two voice coils of each driver in series (+ to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 6 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 4 Ohms
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms

Based on this jl data, would 2 dual 6 ohm 12w3v2 be any good. would the resistance at 6ohm's produce less strain on the speakers or does it not work this way based on my amp. thanks a lot.

The ohms don't put any strain at all on the subs.....the subs are that impedence. And running the amp at 6ohms (the load the subs will present) will cause the amp to put out more power than the w3v2's can handle. IMO the better option would be to go with the dual 2ohm version and wire them to 8ohm, giving each sub almost exactly their RMS power.

One ques about the way you have the diagram for the w3v2. Do you have to have both subs in the same box or what since their directly connected. I have two boxes already made so hwo do you wire them in this case? thanks for your postsby the way!
