Sub Size vs. SQ!? I Cant get a straight answer!

Whats up everyone!? Well ive ordered the first phase of my first car audio venture and im getting ready to make decisions about subs. Judging by all my high school freinds some 15s are the way to go haha...But I would much rather get some advice from all you guys! Im really looking at the BluePrint 03 series because they are really good and have a really good price too. What ever i get im gonna power with 2 JBL 1200.1. I know everyone and their brother has asked the question of 2 12s or 2 15s but ive seen mixed answers. Some say SQ suffers with a 15 as oppsed to a 12 while others say size dosent matter. I know blueprints are SQ subs but i really dont know what i want. I listed to all types of music from dave mathews and jazz to hardcore rap with long bass beats where a 15 would shine. I really appreciate all your help! You are all making a 16 year olds venture into car stereo alot easier!!

One thing is that the Blueprints are svc 4 ohm, so 2 1200.1's would do you no good.

would a sub like that run ok off 600watts at 4ohms? is there a way of rigging the amps so i can use 2 ohms? Should i check out the 02s instead?

As you go farther down the food chain of subs the better sq gets. 10 hit the loudest in the area of just quick responvie tight bass. 12's can do the same and do it louder, but requie a little more room. and 15's are usually just a waste of time for sq. There are a few brands that can do it. But I assure two Audiobahn aluminum (10 0r 12) sound q woofer will out do your friends 15's in a heart beat.

If some one steals your system, get pissed, then shoot them.

I don't think that woofer size is a determining factor in SQ.

SQ and size of the driver depends on a few things.

SQ suffers as the size of the driver increases, but that is only a general rule of thumb.

If a driver is designed properly, the sq will not suffer as it increases in size.

I have heard that the brahma 15" only very marginally suffers in sq compared to the 12" version -- means it's well engineered if that is the case!

I have also heard that the aura 1808, has superb sound quality.

Any subwoofer driver will sound bad if it has an improperly made enclosure.
It is absolutely imperative to have an enclosure designed well to have good sound. Talk to audiolife about his 15s and how good of sound q he can get out of them.

Some drivers to look into for sound quality AND spl

    adire audio brahma www.adireaudio.com
    image dynamics IDMAX
    resonant engineering XXX series, www.respl.com

I'm sure I'm missing other great subwoofer drivers, but can't think of any.

    DEX-P9 (headunit)
    DEQ-P9 (30band eq L/R, time alignment, 36dB/oct 4 way crossover)
    Soundstream Tarantula (for subs)
Precision Power PCX-4125 (for horns and midbasses)
Image Dynamics CD2 comp mini horns
    Scan-Speak 7" 18W/5535A midbasses
    Subs still pending.

sweet thanks thats very helpfull! You know of any subs from the manufactures you listed will work well running off of 1JBl 1200.1 amps? Im trying to stay around $250 or under per sub. I think the XXX may be a little steep and power hungry..i see some site is selling ID maxs for $260 each! Those are awsome but u dunno if thats too much sub for the amps im gonna get or maybe too much sub for my first car audio project? HAHA

A properly designed subwoofer will not be limited by it's size.

Be it 8" or 18", sound quality will not suffer, if it is built, understood, and installed properly.

A friend of mine owns a hartley 24" subwoofer, and has commented that it is by far one of the most articulate subwoofers he's ever heard...

Do any of you know anything about the Blueprint 02 series or the Resonant SEs? I think ive brought my head back down to earth and realized something like 2 or 3 of those a little more realistic for my first project than some brahmas or IDmaxs...
