Noob Needs Help On Budget System For VD-Day

I'm looking for a CHEAP system that's SPL oriented for my girlfriends car. Right now she has 2 6x9's in a '95 Honda Civic 4 door and they slam pretty good.

I'm going out to Best Buy, Circuit City & HHGREGG later on today because I want to have it in her car before Valentines Day.

She really likes slamming bass, listens to rap/hip hop and I'm only willing to spend a max of $150 for the sub and amp. I'll be building the box, want to go ported.

For the amps I came up with:

    Roadmaster VR3 300-Watt Subwoofer Amplifier, 300W 4Ohm $53.47 at Walmart
Verge Mono Subwoofer Amplifier (VGA300M), 195W 4Ohm $49.99 at Circuit City

I know these amps aren't top quality but I'm not sure what's out there and I'm not what you call an expert at car audio.

The sub I'm looking for is anything 12" that'll wang on a cheap amp. I figured enough of you have toyed with cheaper stuff and know what slams and what doesn't.

I also did a search and seems everything budget or for the girlfriend's car is SQ oriented. Any more ideas?

    Thanks in advance

Buy this sub off this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5750774370

    Power it with this: http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2212

Right under budget, and that'll be a really kicking system for $150. Infinitely times better than what you specified

Re: Noob Needs Help On Budget System For VD-Day

for one... i'll tell you the roadmaster amp will probably crap out on you soon... and that 300 watts is MAX power... the verge amps ARE CEA-2006 compliant so they do not overrate them crazily... that amp was over $100 a few weeks ago... it's not a crappy amp... i've only installed 1 or 2 but i haven't seen them come back.. so for $50 on a tight budget i'd get it... and get the lil extended warranty anywayz... i'm sure it can't be too much more... prolly like $10 for 2 years... that way if it does crap out eventually go get another or get store credit...
    specs?
    RMS Power at 2 Ohms 265 W x 1
    RMS Power at 4 Ohms 195 W x 1

find you a 12 that's DVC 4 ohm... and about 250-350w RMS... build a box and have a nice day

Been out of this for a longgg time...

A good ported 15" like that 15K with almost 500W of power behind it will *kick*...talk to Ben or Jeremy over at eD (http://www.edesignaudio.com) for enclosure information. For $147, I don't see how you could do better.

The amp looks good. Definately won't get here by V-Day. The sub on the other hand is questionable. I've read good things about ED subs as far as SPL/SQ go but they seemed to be plagued with too many sub failures. They may have fixed that in the new V2 series. I'd just hate to buy a sub that has a higher than normal failure rate and be stuck with a dead sub that isn't covered under any warranty. I did ALOT of research on ED subs in the past when I was looking for a ED 12k.

I'm sure it would pound beyond my expectations but at a high risk.

The failures you've probably read about have to do with the '04 15A sub, as that was the only one that had a failure record...had to do with a triple joint issue that was present on some drivers, not on others.

The '03 drivers such as this one, used a completely different design and didn't have any higher rates of failure.
