    kicker L5 and L7 question

im planning my system now for my 2004 nissan ext.cab truck.this is what i am planning to put in,alpine spx-177 6 1/2 in the doors and tweeters in the front piller, alpine or eclipse head unit.and for the question on the subs i was thinking about 2 kicker 8L5 or 8L7 in the back in sealed box.im looking to get SQ for sound,i want hard and tight bass.do you think 2 kicker 8`s would be better than 1 kicker 10L5 or L7.also is the L5 for sealed box and the L7 for ported?as for amps i will get want i need to run the subs to power them at rms ratings.

    thanks
    bob

Re: kicker L5 and L7 question

I would go with the single 10 inch L7. I have played around with the 8 inch L5 and it sounds good in a large sealed box but I can't help but think that the 10 inch L7 would go lower easier. Make the box (sealed) on the large end of what Kicker recommends (1 cubic foot) and add about 50% polyfill, that stuff in pillows. This sub is rated at 600 watts RMS, so look for an amp that can produce this power. If you get the dual 2 ohm sub you can look for an amp that is 1 ohm stable which is the best bang for you buck.

i'm for the 8's... i currently have 1 (getting ready to sell) and i dont think you would be able to tell its an 8'', a single 8'' at that...

i might get a pair of 2004 model S8L7's... depends on the new vehicle i might be getting soon.

but a pair of 8's should play louder, and lower than a single 10 also, i'd port them.

Proud soon to be owner of an 8L7 ^^ I cant wait, Ive always wanted to have an 8L7 to mess around with. I think 8's have an originality factor especially in a truck. Your friends will be surprised when they see 8's.

I think sealed would be better for the kickers if he wanted SQ wouldnt it?

that would be up to the listener... everybodies ears are different

me personally i LOVE the way my 8'' sounded in ported boxs. i like sealed every now and then but they just arent loud enough for me. but to each his own i guess.

Could tune it low, making for a smaller box for his truck...
