Soundsplinter man. It's the in thing....it's what all the cool kids are doing. You want to be cool, don't you?

But seriously, they are good subs. And look at it this way.....for only a little bit more than a single XXX or Brahma, you are getting 48mm total Xmax and twice the cone area.

I've been in the same situation. Been looking for two new 12's. Got sick of the RE group buy mess. have 2 Alpine type R's in my jeep that I feel can be improved upon. I really have no way to judge these others i hear a lot about, (Brahma, XXX. etc.) so I really had no idea. Mike told me these subs are a close cousin to the subs in my house which are phenomenal. I was like you, wanting someone to either tell me I was genious or a dumbas for ordering them. i finally just settled for the fact that I love my HT subs so I will try these out. Ordering mine in Feb. If you get yours before then, let me know what you think

I've been all over Ascendant - even located an older thread elsewhere about the birth of the company, and the tiny ramp-up before they introduced their product.

As far squeak changing my mind, I see that he has a large postcount, but I'm not familiar with him, so no clout there [ no offense, squeaker. ]

I considered it, but I'm wary.

A single 15 is great, but as noted earlier; a pair of 12s for the price? Seems to me that even if I code, plot, translate and compare specs from each product; All I'll have are differences. Differences that I can't rationalize in a real world application without hearing the woofer. I don't know what a woofer with a high BL sounds like compared to a low BL.

    So.

Resonant lost points for disappointing the possible groupies,
Ascendant is yet unproven, "but they have xbl2" which is uberness around here.

    However,

Mike was friendly, and available. I think we exchanged emails ten times this afternoon.

My issue really is that I haven't set myself a spending limit - Instead of going for "best sub under $300," I'm going for "best deal on killer sub."

That doesn't mean "WELL **** DAWGG IF MONEY IZ NO PROBLUM BUY TEH DD9915Z YO," it just means when a great deal pops up on a great woofer, I'm buying it. Which is why I watched the RE thread.

So this SonicFX thing popped up. I'll probably pass, I haven't heard anything(good OR bad) about them.

It's quite frustrating, I'm sure we've all been stuck with the same decision.

    Which, Friggin, Sub.

I should commit myself to a padded room full of 8" Bazooka tubes.

That could quite possibly be the worst form of torture I have ever heard. I might just prefer ramming bamboo splints under my fingernails before I would go into a room filled with bazooka tubes

Seems that the XXX and Brahma are compared more often than any other subs here. That leads me to believe that the XXX and Brahma are more like eachother than any other subs here.

Is that true, or are we just making cliches?

Icon6 Re: To SoundSplinter, or not to SoundSplinter. That is the question.

People will always have their favorite brands that they are quick to hype. Based on the feedback my customers have given me, I will confidently state that my Premium line is on the same playing field as the XXX and Brahma woofers. There have been quite a few inferences that my woofers outperform the two aforementioned, which incidentally are quite a bit more expensive. But what it comes down to is your own personal preference and the application you will be using the driver in. I will not say our drivers are the best out there as I haven't tried everything, but I will stand by their quality and value. You won't be disappointed

So far as t/s param's go, they are good to use as a basic guide but at times become more of a guessing game than not. I agree, you have to hear a woofer to really understand if it is what you want. Not to mention, using some t/s modeling programs like WinISD, our drivers will model quite terribly, but in the real world environment given the same constraints that were imputted into the software, they sound absolutely phenomenal. Go figure.. Just take your time and remember, you can always resell or trade if you want to try something new down the line

In fact, how about this. You go ahead and pick up that pair of RL-p12's you were thinking about. I'll give you two weeks to test them and if they don't satisfy you, you can return them to me for a full refund less shipping. Pretty safe deal for you, and then you can hop back in here and let people know first hand what your experience was.

Sorry bud, but that was audiolife that picked up the Atlas. I recently picked up a 12" RL-p though Hopefully once they are both installed we can do a little comparo since audiolife lives very close to me.

Well, most people can't hear a difference between them. And they seem to be the "reference" sub(s) round these parts, so they are good to reference on a comparison basis.

Mike, I'm still working on the proper compliment; That is a stunning display of sportsmanship, and the mark of a true businessman.

You must have a danmed fine product.

    I'll take two.

    Color me impressed.
