    Why did my sub blow (i dont want it to happen again)

    Alright after alot of hard thought and drooling over a 15" XXX, i've decided that i'll stick with the L7 for the time being. This time i'm doing it smart and getting it from indoaudio with a 1 year warranty. I would like to know some opinions of why my sub blew. Its a Kicker L7 12", i ran a rockford 1001bd and gave the sub 700watts rms. I DID NOT use the bass boost thing, ran the sub at 2 ohms. Sub was in a ported box about 6 cu ft. and ported to 37hz....a little high isn't it? Anyway I used the sub sonic filter on my amp as well. Why do you think it blew?

    37hz is fine for that subs, i have 2 L7 15" tuned to 38hz, how were u playing your music before you heard the unpleasant noise?

    head unit = Alpine 9830 <--- for sale
    Sub amp = orion 2500d
    subs = 3 13ov.2 in 6cf box tuned to 32hz

    well I was playing it VERY loud for about 1 min, then i turned it down to about 1/4 of max listening volume. A few minutes later i turned it up and heard rattle rattle. I also notice that when i played the sub really loud, I could smell it getting hot......i know that has something to do with it.

    Well if you could smell it, it's likely a thermal breakdown. I guess it was getting too much power but...there must have been something else fishy with yo ur setup.

    I used to spend a lot of my free time here. It was fun I suppose. Still rocking the 9515 and Better Audio amp haha.

    How's incriminator stuff these days?

    this is just a shot in the dark, what kind of amp u running, if so it could of sent a clipped signal during that 1 minute of bumping and that unpleasant noise u smell is a burnt voice coil

    If that's the amp's true power specs, you most likely clipped it . Like someone else said, thermal breakdown, and 700 watts didnt do that.

    Indoaudio has a good reputation of sucking with their warranty.

    By setting the gain correctly. Read the gain setting tutorial and get friendly with a DMM.

    Isn't 6 cubes a little big for the L7 12?

    yea, 6cuft and 700watts would be pretty harmful to the sub I would imagine.
