Is an aluminum cone better than anything else?

    Not really. It's just lighter.

It's s'pose to stop distortion and since it is light weight like ramos said it lets the alum type subs respond better.

If some one steals your system, get pissed, then shoot them.

Seen an eclipse 8812 series frequency response once? There are several nasty breakup nodes that most have attributed to the cone...

In terms of lightness, paper/kevlar cones will under most circumstances be lighter.

Using such a heavy cone is great if you needed the extra mass for a lower Fs, better than adding dead weight in the form of slugs...

That's true I didn't think about that. I like good old paper.

aluminum cones can hold more watts a lot of times bescause they are more resistant to flexing than paper.

    Untrue....

Design has more to do with it than cone material. The cone is one of the last things to determine wattage limits. Suspension limitations and coil thermal handling are the two major issues.

as with most fads what makes em different is what is used to sell em. here is a hint to what is good or not. look to see how the nice home systems are set up driver wise (talkin the $$$ stuff) if you can audition them great. i think you'll be more than suprised to how much time is spent on the encloser as compared to how radical the drivers look. in most cases the speakers look pretty mundane with lite cone most are treated paper. imho paper still gives the best natural sound
