Off Topic, but most people are in here...I NEED HELP ASAP!!

Ok, I am going to run 1/0 AWG from my battery to a distro block, and then split it in two 4 AWG for my amps.

At the local audio shop, 1/0AWG wire is $6 a foot whereas at Lowes it is $1.20 a foot. Besides the pliability (which I dont really care about), would it be ok if I used the stuff from Lowes?

P.S. the local car audio shop told me that the Lowes stuff wouldnt run 12 volts. I dont know if he was trying to scare me or if he just wanted me to buy his stuff...please let me know ASAP!!!

With DC current the gauge of the wire is the only thing that makes a difference. Strand count can kiss my non-hairy ***. But I would recommend you using at least welding cable. I've used non-bendy 1/0 and it *****.

Is this not a reasonable place to park?

Ask him for a detailed, technical explaination of why the wire wouldn't carry 12V

    I agree with squeek:

You gotta ask him why such conductive material wouldnt not carry a voltage on it ?
Just to catch him in more bullshit, say... Is it the outershielding cause to much electrical e-gress from off air radio transmissions interfere with the signal being quantensized in my digital amp ? Is the shielding cause a load to drop the 12volts or my current for the amp , and with such atenuation is this why I cant use such lowes wire ?

If anything.... No oxygen wire is exagerated Ask him if its because its got to much oxygen and impurities in the metals

Im dying to see the bullshit he gives you man !
We all here need a good laugh .

I've come to find that wires seem to be a source of great confusion for car audio salesmen.

Re: Off Topic, but most people are in here...I NEED HELP ASAP!!

no confusion at all for CA salesmen, we used to make allot of money on it heheheh

however i will say this as an installer i won't warranty my work unless it's wire that either came from the shop or that we had approved, such as weldingsuplly.com wire. And i won't approve Lowe's 1/0 if i was installing cause i aint"t fighting that stiff ****

I was under the impression that thread count was important. Electrical current travels on the surface area of wire, not in the wire itself...and the more strands the higher the surface area. It will still carry the 12 volts, just the current will be increased. Is this not true?

True of high frequencies, DC (frequency of 0) however, not true.

only counts in things that really matter like transformers and microphones. for power cable, it carries no signal just juice so it doent matter.

signal...juice...wire doesn't differentiate between the two. It is meant to do one thing and that is flow current efficiently and effectively.
