Downfiring?

Anyone got experience with downfiring subs in extended cab trucks, or just downfiring in any vehicle... My vehicle is in the sig... and i am just wondering about the sound of downfiring subs...

everything ive heard. . . good. don't know in a car but in my living room, sounds pretty good.

I never thought about it that way.... i have a downfiring 10 in my living room and it sounds great. Thank you for enlightening me on that...

Apprently the results for us truck guys are supposed to be great.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm working on a downfiring center console for the Shiva's right now, as opposed to the woofers firing upwards as they are now.

I've heard some good sounding down firing installs.... Probably something when done right, It'll be a good choice.

FOR SURE..I am a Downfire guy..Like I said in another post and not that it matters. But My guy installs 80% of his High end systems in Dually's....1/2 tons..Dodge trucks..Ford..GMC YOU NAME IT..He will not let you do anything besides a Downfire set up! He is a honest guy with 30 years expereince with Truck installs and he "Dares" me to try a frontfire! He says I will be back for DOwnfire in a minute..I TOTALLY TRUST HIM..He's an Expert in all Truck installs and from what I have heard he is right on the money...DOWNFIRE THEM!

Look at every Major Enclosure company from JL Stealthbox..MTX...Q-LOGIC ,,etc,,,All of thier boxes are downfire,,that says alot!!

well of course they do, much less air space to pressurize and nothing killing the sound like a trunk.

I think that has something to do with the whole Downfire concept being superior (if I remember correctly). I believe the frontfires basicallY have "too much room to breath".
The downfire box creates a scenario in which the whole cab of the truck becomes a sealed enclosure...I may be off on this explanaion..but it is something like that.

The main reson people stear away from the Downfire style instead of frontfire or upfire is simple...Cosmetics..You cannot see the subs in a downfire sub box..and all of us are guilty of wanting our buddies to "see what we got"

Look at my other post on this..You can't downfire 10 JL subs. that would be the exception to this rule.Come on bro? Those SPL systems are a totally diffrent deal that the common consumers system. Listen to 2 12's downfiring in an XT cab truck and then listen to 2 12's frontfire.
Like I said..if frontfire was the way JL audio,MTX and Qlogic the top Truck custom enclosure makers would not downfire..They make Downfires for a reason. They didn't just "decide" to point the subs to the floor for the hell of it???Same with car guys pointing thire subs to the REAR of the Trunk..there is a science to this

I lost a lot when I went to downfiring ... I'll re adjust everything later on, but with a direct swap I lost a fair amount of low end extension. I'm still going to make some adjustments and hopefully I can get it to load better.

I think what you are trying to explain is "loading" (same effect as corner-loading with a home sub). But, the cabins of vehicles are so small in relation to the length of bass waves, that you are going to have loading effect (cabin gain) no matter how the sub is aimed.

EXACTLY..you are right..It is the same theory as with a Cube bass box for your surround sound system at home..In fact that is what these Downfires sound like to me even before I got that Explanation from the Audio guy..But you say thats not really possible in this kinda configuration???
