    Cone area or watts?

    Ihave 2 dvc 4 ohms, and what im wandering is if i double my watts to one ,run at 2 ohms ,is that better than double the cone area at half the watts???(it is a sq setup)

    cone area...

    doubling the wattage only takes you so far, some subs suffer from "power compression" - that is, you exceed the point of diminishing returns for adding more power. There is no such point for cone area

    I'd definitely go for doubling the cone area. Doubling power can at MOST give you +3dB, and that's assuming that there isn't any power compression, and there almost alway is at least some, and in many cases, a lot.
