    Newb Bandpass setup questions

    Here is my setup:

    SUBS
    AMP
    BOX
--the image on this page is how my subs are set up--

First off, I need to know the best physical setup for my subs: with the magnet pointing "out" (in the plexiglass area) or with the cone facing "out"

One has the magnet in, the other has the magnet out (like the photo at "BOX" above) currently, and I think this might affect the volume displacement in each subs chamber.

So question 1: BOTH facing out? BOTH facing in? or keep it how it is (one in, one out?)

Item number two: Push/Pull. Should both speakers be wired in phase, or should one be out of phase? Keep in mind the possible physical arrangements.

Third newb Q. Polyfill. Should I stuff the plexi area? (I don't care about looks)

    ---other car info---
HU: Kenwood KDC-319 (ANCIENT cd player)
FS: Pioneer 3 ways (yellow cone, model #???)
RS: Cerwin Vega 1683 3 ways

    (it needs work, I know)

    Re: Newb Bandpass setup questions

i personally would face both subwoofers the same direction. the other way is generally for show purposes. id put the magnet/basket in the ported chamber. keep everything in allignment, keep everything linear. which brings me to the next part........ dont wire anything out of phase, unless you want it to sound like crap. but it's your opinion.

    Re: Newb Bandpass setup questions

After reading the specs of the box it says a 3 chamber box........ i dont see 3 chambers, i only see 2. unless the ported section of the box is 2 separate chambers, which i cant see that helping because the sealed part is still interconnected. but i have seen boxs like that before, and i have -never- seen somebody invert 1 subwoofer, in a bandpass enclosure..... hope i have helped rather than confuse.

    Re: Newb Bandpass setup questions

Thank you all for the support and feedback. I'll experiment with their placement, and the consensus is "have them both the same" which makes sense to me.

On the "3-port" part of the box, each speaker has its own chamber behind the plexi. There is a divider, so each sub outputs through two of the tuned ports, not all four at once.

Polyfill... where can I find it? Home Depot? are there any specific density-type measurements I need to look for?

And Peel and Seal... where can I find that? Online, or are there stores that carry it? (michaels, home depot, lowes?)

And a final thing I'd like more info on:

I bridged the output of the amp, but wired both speakers into the bridged output. 4 ohm SVC x2... how many ohms does the amp "see"?? (by the way, its sounded better, but the amp wouldn't last very long, it would shut itself off)

Thanks again for all of the information!

    Re: Newb Bandpass setup questions

I believe you can get polyfill at like walmart. Its pretty much pillow stuffing or something to that extent. Peel and Seal should be able to be found at home depot or lowes in the roofing section.

If your subs are wired in parallel, you are runnign a 2 ohm load to the amp. If they are bridged, each channel is seeing 1 ohm. If youve got the subs wired in a series, the amp is seeing 8 ohms and each channel is seeing 4 ohms.
