    Icon32 Upgrade from 3 MTX 10"s

Hi guys. I got a few questions about upgrading my subs. Last year I got a great deal on a box with 3 MTX 10"s. It's like the tribox in the link except w/ older subs and no plexiglass.
    http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/archive/...6000Loaded.cfm
They sound ok, but the box takes up too much room and I want better sound/harder bass. I don't want to spend too much money and was thinking of buying 2 refurb 10" L7's from ebay ($200) and building a custom box.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...709599687&rd=1
<edit> Im open to other subs and if you can recomend where to order them...<edit>

My subs are running 4 ohms off a cheap amp I got from a friend.
The headunit has a mono out and I was thinking of going to a 2 ohm box and class D' amp. I read its more efficient. Whats a good mono amp for the dollar? How many watts to power 2 10"s?

I really don't know much about this stuff and was wondering if one of you pros could give some advice. Currently Im thinking 2 10"s with the right box and amp will be more than enough. I might go 1 12" or a single 10" if I can get similar results for less money. Do I need 2 4 ohm subs bridged or do I get 2 2 ohm subs? Separate boxes or together?

I have limited space behind the 3rd row seats and was wondering if the box had to be square to sound good. Where the trunk closes it's straight up and down. The side facing the back of the seat is at an angle. Anyone build a nice box for 2 10"s behind the last row of a 98-2000 Expedition? Mine/that box in the link is takes up 2/3rds of the rear.

    Ford Expedition
    HU: Sony CDX-M800 HU/ CDX 757MX 10 disc changer
Amps: MTX 250 watt 4 channel (4 ohms)
    MTX 450 watt 4 channel (4 ohms)
Front: CDT CL-61T (Thanks to peoples advice here)
    Rear: CDT CL-6X (Ditto!)
    Subs: 3 MTX 10”s

I'm looking to buy in a couple of weeks (after payday).

    TIA

Re: Upgrade from 3 MTX 10"s

First thing on your list should be a new amp, try am MTX 2300x. You can get it from www.mitekfactoryoutlet.com for ~$200 with warranty (mitek owns mtx)

Its rated at 600RMS x1 at 4 ohms at 12.5 volts, usually the birth sheets show 700+
That amp is a perfect match for the subs you have, Im not saying the subs you have are top notch, but Im sure 90% of you dissapointment is quality and punch is because of the amp.

Re: Upgrade from 3 MTX 10"s

I'm pretty sure the subs are the same as these:
    http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/archive/...der4000Sub.cfm
    T41012 10" Subwoofer 12 Ohm 40Hz-150Hz 200/400 87.8dB 1 1/2" 25oz. 4 7/8

That 8302 MTX amp (425 watts) was pushing them okay. The one I'm using now has more power and sounds about the same.... maybe a little worse but louder.
Can that amp your suggesting run at 2 ohm stable? $200 sounds like a good price and I wouldn't mind picking it up iand then changing out subs later if I wanted to. I'm searching their site right now and it's not showing up in the search feature.... <edit> looks like they're out of them. <edit>

If I were to change out the subs, what subs would you go with and in what configuration?
    2 10's or 1 12" or ??? Are refurbs okay?

    Thanks!

Re: Upgrade from 3 MTX 10"s

I think I'm going to grab one RE 10" sub and a decent amp first. If it's not enough I can always add another amp/sub. I'm not sure which one to get. XXX or the one below it. Does anyone know how much they are and a good place to buy it. I can buy directly from RE I think.

Any suggestions for amps. Something good enough to drive either the XXX or the one below it. I'm leaning toward the one below.

    Thanks,
