    I can't figure it.... Help guys:/

    ok here's my junk.

    JVC KD-LH3150 Head Unit.
    Pioneer 180watt 3-way 6 1/2's
    2 Infinity Reference Series 1230w 12" subs, 300watt RMS 1200 Peak.
    1 MTX RoadThunder 801D Amplifier.

My trouble seems to be giving out any bass worth mentioning. 2 Twelves crappy or not should shake some ****, unfortunately mine doesn't. I originally built a fiberglass enclosure for the subs, that crapped the sack and got tossed promptly. Now I have a 35x16x15 solid MDF enclosure in the trunk of my 92' Civic Hatch. (Ported with 2, 2 inch wide 10 inch long PVC tubes.) I have the subs wired series and bridged across the amp. (Speaker 1 Positive to Speaker 2 Negative.) Now that you guys know the situation, here is my trouble, I got NO BASS!!! It playes, just fine, but I can't get the heartstopping bass I bought the system to receive. I am not going to win comps with 2 twelves, but I have seen a single sub drown me out. WTF!! I am relevently new to the sound game and wanna know what I gotta do? Make a bigger port? Port with MDF? Brace the box? Get more subs? Bigger amp? Run a cap? Tune it better? Go Smaller and with a sealed enclosure? Please any help would be great...
    Thxxxx to those who speak:P

lol, your prob is with your box. Put them in a small sealed 3/4 " mdf. After you do that you will feel the bass you are wanting.

    Re: I can't figure it.... Help guys:/

well first off lets say this... (very important listen up) Quality over Quantity, Quality over Quantity!!!!! I bet when I get all my stuff I can beat a kid with 4 or 5 crapy 15 compared to my 1 high quality 15. New subs would be a good idea. You are porbably not going to get the great bass off those 2 subs. If you are going to stick with those subs try a bigger enclosure. Actuly figure out the tunning b/c this has a lot to do with how loud you can get. If you want to be loud but still sound good, 35Hz is a good round tuning. Also what power does your amp put out?? Normally when you wire in series you are not using most of the subs power b/c the independce is not as low. What ohm are your subs and what is the amp rated at and at which ohm's???

    Hope this helps...

    Jon

One problem i see is your ports...two, 2in ports give you a grand total of about 6 inches^2 of port area. I haven't taken the time to figure out what you're tuned to, but with that much port area you're probably hurting your output over sealed rather than helping it. Besides that, check your connections and the wiring of your subs to make sure you're not running a really high resistence load (this would cut power tremendously). I'm sure others will have more opinions but check these issues out as well.

My amp runs 500w @ 2 Ohms x1 or 250 watt at 4 Ohms x1. My Infinity subs are Single Voice Coil 4 ohms speakers.

    Re: I can't figure it.... Help guys:/

first off wire the subs down to 2 ohms... it's a class d mono amp... so just put one speaker on speaker 1's terminals + & - on the amp... and put the other speaker on speaker 2's terminals + & - ... then see if that helps... should push around 400 to each sub

**edit** wow i hit reply... got some food... came back & replied and basically repeated what other people said while i replied...

Been out of this for a longgg time...

    Re: I can't figure it.... Help guys:/

If you really don't have any bass it could be due to cancellation because your subs are out of phase, but if your box is tuned to 20hz, that would also cause for some low output levels.

BTW I am going to buy some 3 inch PVC now, how long do my ports have to be to tune that box perfectly, 10 inch? or would 11-12 be better?

    Ummm,

Now I have a 35x16x15 solid MDF enclosure in the trunk of my 92' Civic Hatch. (Ported with 2, 2 inch wide 10 inch long PVC tubes.)
His enclosure is MDF. The box does have a problem of being tuned to low, but his biggest problem is his amp is running at 8 ohms.

Like stated earlier, run each sub to its own channel on the amp. Then the amp will be running at 2 ohms, and voila, 800 watts RMS to both subs.

Althougth that will be too much power for them, so make sure to adjust the gain properly.

And when you can, do as suggested above and increase the port size to up the tuning a GOOD amount.

Problem is I have 13 1/2 inches of depth to the sox, so a 12 inch port gives me like 1 1/2 inches between the port and back wall:/ problem?

    Re: I can't figure it.... Help guys:/

First of all, that box is tuned to like 20hz. This is HORRIBLY low tuning, and is not useful in a car environment. The absolute lowest i would tune in car is 26hz...that's pushing it to me. So, build a new box...if you need help...give me your maximum dimensions (LxWxD) you want the box to be. I'd tune it to 30-35hz. Also, what is the VC (voice coil) configuration on the subwoofers (ex: 4ohm, 2ohm, 8ohm) Abother possibility is if you have the 801d...it's stable down to 2ohms i think....wire your subs in parallel...i'm guessing they are most likely 4ohm subs. So this will give the 801d a 2ohm load giving more power to the subs. I'd recommend both a box rebuild, and re-wire your subs in parallel...you will be MUCH happier then. It's not necessary to buy new stuff until you at least try the above suggested. good luck, peace
