Best sub to push 500w rms too?

So out of curiosity....I just picked up a Alpine PDX-V9 to replace a Phoenix Gold RX600.5. I currently have the PG running to two JL 10" w1v3 in sealed box (size unknown ) I'm hoping running the PDX-V9 will give these guys a little more punch. If thats not the case I guess I should ask what sub(s) would you recommend? Cars an 02 accord and I need my trunk so please dont recommend something that requires some gnarly sized ported box. I listen to all types of music but mainly hard house / trance, punk and metal. All advice is welcome!

a sundown SA8v.2 in a custom ported box would get gnarly punchy and barely take up any space.

I recommend just getting a better box, and you should be able to make do with what you already have.

I agree let those JL breathe some fresh air with a port instead of sealed and you might be happy with it, if not then open another thread to replace sub and amp and do around 1k

You're gonna love that PDX-V9! I'm running one in my ranger and it's SOLID. I too am looking for something to feed that 500 watts to right now. I had a shallow 8" Earthquake in there due to space constrictions (reg cab) and the Alpine cooked the coil on that thing real quick. That amp is so well-built and loaded with quality features, it's an incredible piece of equipment. SO MANY settings too! Only caveat is that it can realllllll hot, particularly trapped behind my seat with very little room to breathe. It's so bad I'm considering putting a fan or two back there for it. Then I need to find a nice 10" and a place to stuff it in there. Good luck and enjoy yours!

The Infinity Kappa 100.9w and 120.9w are rated for only 350watts of power, but I suspect that they're underrated. You need 500-600 to get the excursion to reach the xmax in a sealed box. I power mine with PPI P1000.1 running in 4ohm mode, and it seems to be doing well. The latest underhung Alpine Type-S might be a good budget sub for this power as well. If you can buy a more expensive subwoofer, the IDQ v3 should do well with that power too.

And being in state, you can swap shipping costs with sales tax.

Can you explain how to do that in detail? I would like to know more about this.

Re: Best sub to push 500w rms too?

Out of state sales (in most states) aren't subject to sales tax. In state sales are. So when you save shipping costs by buying in state, those costs don't go away... they become sales tax.

And... you can ship, say, $500.00 worth of audio gear (heavy woofers notwithstanding) for about $10.00-20.00. Sales tax on $500.00 will be anywhere between $21.75 (HI) & $47.20 (TN).

I'll take the shipping costs any day of the week. Partly because they're almost always lower and partly because I despise government.... but that's just a personal thing.
